2021-22 National Girls High School Rankings

117

USA Wrestling, FloWrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum has published the Preseason Rankings for high school girls wrestlers for the 2021-22 season. This national ranking evaluates all girls enrolled in grades 8-12, and athletes from all 50 states are eligible for selection.

Last year’s high school graduates have been removed, and many new athletes have joined the rankings for the first time, including eligibility for incoming eighth graders.

The event which clearly had the most impact on the rankings was the record-setting USMC Junior and 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D., July 16-23, which set entry records in both age divisions and featured spectacular competition in all weight divisions.

With the new season comes nine new No. 1 wrestlers in the rankings. They include Cecilia Williams of Michigan (112), Katie Gomez of California (117), Shelby Moore of Washington (122), Savannah Cosme of Colorado (127), Hanna Errthum of Wisconsin (132), Grace Stem of Pennsylvania (144), Amit Elor of California (152), Sabrina Nauss of Michigan (180) and Sam Calkins of California (200).

Five wrestlers who finished last season ranked No. 1 have returned and start the new season in the No. 1 spot again: Ava Ward of Missouri (100), Audrey Jimenez of Arizona (106), Korina Blades of Illinois (138), Kylie Welker of Wisconain (164) and Eliana Bommarito of Michigan (225).

The Pound-For-Pound (P-4-P) rankings were also updated, with a new P-4-P No. 1 determined. Kyle Welker of Wisconsin, who was No. 2 in the final P-4-P rankings last season, defeated the previous P-4-P No. 1 Kennedy Blades of Illinois in the championship series of this past weekend’s Senior World Team Trials. Amit Elor of California, a Cadet World champion and Junior World champion this summer, moves up to No. 2 and Blades is in the No. 3 position.

The next National Girls High School Ranking will be in November, after a series of major pre-season events, including FloWrestling’s Who’s Number One, the USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals, Super 32, a number of all-star cards, plus other large early season competitions.

Coaches, parents and athletes are encouraged to provide information about specific athletes and their achievements throughout the year for the committee to consider. If they have information on specific girls who should be considered for ranking or updates on their achievements, please send it by email to girlsrankings@usawrestling.org. The quality of these rankings continue to improve as people choose to share updated information.
