2021 - Olympic Qualifiers - Men's Freestyle

57KG - Zaur Uguev

Contenders:
57kg at the Olympics has one heavy favorite and about 10 others with medal potential. Zaur Uguev has been the best guy at the weight for the past three years. He’s a two-time defending world champion and has only lost two matches since 2018. His last loss came in June 2019 to Makhir Amiraslanov (AZE)-who will not be at the Olympics. Expect Atli, Kumar, and Takahashi to be Uguev's main challengers and the competitors rankedall the waydown to #13 to challenge for a medal.

Recent Results:
Yuki Takahashi and Bekhbayar Erdenebat are the new qualifiers at 57kg. Takahashi was the 2017 World Champion and has two wins over Thomas Gilman. Takahashi slides in at the #4 spot based on his win over Nurislam Sanayev at the 2020 Asian Championships and past losses to Ravi Kumar.

Erdenebat is a two time world bronze medalist (2015 and 2017) but does not have many recent results against the Olympic field. He is 1-2 against Reza Atri in the last 3 years. However, he lost the last two against the Iranian and Erdenebat’s win over Atri was from early 2018. Thomas Gilman defeated Erdenebat at the 2019 Yarygin - slotting Erdenebat in behind Gilman at #10.
