2021 - Olympic Qualifiers - Men's Freestyle

57KG - Zaur Uguev

57kg at the Olympics has one heavy favorite and about 10 others with medal potential. Zaur Uguev has been the best guy at the weight for the past three years. He’s a two-time defending world champion and has only lost two matches since 2018. His last loss came in June 2019 to Makhir Amiraslanov (AZE)-who is not currently qualified for the Olympics.

Suleyman Atli and Ravi Kumar where in action at their continental tournaments and each won gold. Atli took out Russian silver medalist, Nachyn Mongush in the finals in a close, 6-5 match. Kumar was not tested as much on his way to winning the Asian Championships. In the finals, Kumar defeated Iran's back-up, Alireza Sarlak, in a competitive but controlling 9-4 match.

While Thomas Gilman is ranked eighth, he should be able to compete for a medal at the Olympics. He has past wins over Minghu Liu (2020 Matteo Pellicone), Reza Atri (2017 Worlds), and Suleyman Atli (2018 Yasar Dogu). However, Gilman has also suffered defeats to Atli (2018 Worlds), Sunayev (2018 Worlds), and Vangelov (2019 Dan Kolov).
