2020-21 National Girls HS Rankings Presented By ASICS

144

USA Wrestling, FloWrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum has published its fourth national rankings for high school girls wrestlers for the 2020-21 season.

This ranking evaluates all girls enrolled in grades 8-12, and athletes from all 50 states are eligible for selection.

With many changes in the high school season across the nation, this ranking includes results from open competitions held across the nation, as well as the high school season in a number of states which have been able to hold a traditional high school schedule. Some states have not even started the high school season.

There has already been one unofficial state tournament held, in Indiana on January 15. This weekend, Iowa will run its unofficial state chamionships, as will Alabama. A number of states will host championships in February, before the next national ranking.

A number of national organizations are filling in their spring schedules. USA Wrestling has announced a new event, the High School National Recruiting Showcase late March, with eight qualifying events in early March, and competition in freestyle. Current and past girls state champions at official and recognized unofficial state tournaments automatically qualify for the National Recruiting Showcase. The annual USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle Nationals will also be held in late March.

There were no changes in the No. 1 wrestlers in the nation in this ranking. There was movement in all of the weight classes, as some ranked wrestlers are changing weight classes, while other rising athletes have cracked into the top 25 this month. With state tournaments and other competitions coming up, there is expected to be much movement in the next few rankings.

The girls high school ranking will appear on the websites of all three organizations, and be promoted through each of their different media platforms.

Coaches, parents and athletes are encouraged to provide information about specific athletes and their achievements throughout the year for the committee to consider. If they have information on specific girls who should be considered for ranking or updates on their achievements, please send it by email to girlsrankings@usawrestling.org. As noted in the past, head-to-head matches, especially in matches featuring ranked wrestlers, will be extremely helpful to the committee. The quality of these rankings continue to improve as people choose to share updated information.

In addition, the committee seeks to add high-quality in-season competitions to their watch list. Wrestling leaders at the state level are encouraged to recommend the “best” girls high school events, so the results can affect the rankings.
