2021-22 Michigan High School Rankings: 152
Gonzales captured his second consecutive state championship and finished the season unbeaten for the second straight year (21-0). Gonzales, ranked No. 17 nationally at 152, boasts a 127-3 high school record. He finished seventh in the 152-pound freestyle competition in Fargo, knocking off Kansas' Dylan Elmore, ranked No. 19 nationally. Along the way, Gonzales also bested Michael Kilic, a two-time Georgia state champion who is ranked No. 13 in the nation. Gonzales notched wins over two-time state champion Joel Campbell (Idaho) and and one-time champions Connor Euton (Ohio) and Brayden Peet (Illinois). Campbell and Euton finished a combined 79-0 during the last high school season.
