Artur Naifonov won his third Russian Nationals title by defeating Amanula Rasulov in the finals. Despite the loss to Naifonov, Rasulov pulled the upset of the weight by defeating #6 Dauren Kurugliev in the semi-finals. 

Fatih Erdin moves back into the rankings after a solid performance at the rankings series event in Kazakhstan highlighted by a win over #15 Azamat Dauletbekov. However, Erdin came up short in the finals against defending world champion Hassan Yazdani, losing 11-0. Erdin also came up short in the finals of the Mediterranean Games against #8 Myles Amine, losing 4-1.

Set to challenge Hassan Yazdani is 3-time world medalist Alireza Karimi who was back in action at the Takhti Cup. Yazdani and Karimi will now wrestle-off for the right to represent Iran at the 2022 World Championships.
