61 Abasgadzhi Magomedov

A few new faces enter the rankings at 61kg in this set. First, Suleyman Atli moves up from 57kg after winning Turkey’s national tournament. Atli is a two-time world medalist and should be considered a major threat to the world at 61kg. He slots in nicely at #7 based on a win over #8 Nachyn Mongush in the finals of the 2021 European Championships. 

Also moving up from 57kg is Aryan Tsiutrin (BLR). Tsiutrin entered Belarus’ national tournament at 61kg and lost to Andrei Bekrenev in the finals. 

In Japan, Ryuto Sakaki defeated 2016 Olympic Silver medalist Rei Higuchi in the finals of the Emperor’s Cup, 4-0. Prior to the finals, Higuchi took out former #11 Kotaro Kiyooka, 2-1.
