2023 International Wrestling Rankings - Men's Freestyle

86 Hassan Yazdani

There’s still mystery on what weight J’den Cox will be competing at for an Olympic spot. He has not announced whether he is going up or down and we will change his weight if he announces he's bumping up to 97. In the meantime, J'den is slotted at #2 behind World Champion Hassan Yazdani Charati. The Iranian has been more dominant than Cox and Yazdani Charati won the 2017 World Championships at the same weight in which Cox competed. The obvious absence is 2018 World Champion, David Taylor. He has been out of competition since his knee injury in the spring and as soon as he returns to action, he will return in the rankings.

Last year’s world runner up at 79kg, Jabrayil Hasanov, is making his way up to 86kg and has competed in maybe the most events of any wrestler. He has shown the weight change will not be an issue by defeating both Ali Shabanov and Vladislav Valiev.

Despite his loss to Myles Martin, Alex Dieringer remains in the rankings based off the overall success of his 2019 season. Along with that, most of the other competitors ranked 10-20 have all taken losses to those ranked outside the top 20 in the last one or two months of competition.
