#10 Mojtaba Goleij defeated #11 Ali Shabani in two straight matches (3-1, 3-2)  to win the world team spot at 97kg for Iran. This is the second team Shabani narrowly missed out on after losing to Mohammad Mohammadian at the Poland Open in June. Mohammadian was eliminated from world team contention after he failed to medal at the Olympics. 

Russia’s Khokh Khugaev defeat Azerbaijan Islam Ilyasov in the finals of the CIS Games. Khugaev is one of Russia’s best young talents at 97kg and could be an outside shot to challenge for the world team spot if Sadulaev chooses not to compete.
