57 Zaur Uguev

While there weren’t other ranked wrestlers in the competition, #16 Akhmed Idrisov won the CIS Games on September 4th. In the gold medal match, Idrisov defeated Almaz Sanbekov (KGZ) 4-1.

Iran decided their world team spot at 57kg when #18 Alireza Sarlak defeated Ali Gholizadegan. Sarlak was the 2021 Asian Silver medalist and won bronze at the U23 World Championships in 2019.

Mongolia’s Bekhbayar Erdenebat was back in action after failing to medal at the Olympic Games. Erdenebat won Mongolia’s world team trials and will wrestle once again at 57kg at the world championships in October.

Afghan Khashalov is new to the rankings after the removal of Arsen Harutyunyan created an opening in the last spot. Harutyunyan will move up to 61kg and compete there at the world championships for Armenia. Khashalov has a past win over #12 Ramiz Gamzatov and is Azerbaijan’s front runner to wrestle at worlds at 57kg.
