2023 International Wrestling Rankings - Men's Freestyle

97 Abdulrashid Sadulaev

Kyle Snyder won the US Olympic Trials and became the 97kg representative for the 6th straight time for Team USA. The story at the trials however was the absence of J’den Cox in the weight due to his failure to make weight/weigh-in on time. Because J’den did not compete at the Trials, and his lack of total results at the weight, he dropped a few slots.

Mohammad Mohammadian was back in action and looked to be as dominant as the last time we saw him. However, it’s worth explaining Mohammadian’s ranking behind Kyle Snyder down at #7. Back in January 2020, Mohammadian defeated Snyder and moved ahead of him to the #2 spot. He stayed there until he suffered 2 losses to fellow Iranian, Ali Shabani in November 2020. On top of that, Snyder, Goleij and Odikadze have a head to head wins over Shabani. The rest of the top 10 is sorted by recency of wins and losses to common opponents. It’s a bit of a mess, but shows the level of parity after Sadualev and down to Goleij at 97kg.
