2019-20 NCAA DIII Rankings

174 Darden Schurg - Wabash College

Schurg is the returning national champion at this weight and will look to defend his title in 2020. The senior has had an incredible career at Wabash and carries at 106-15 career record into his final year of competition.

Kyle Briggs was so close to meeting Schurg in the 2019 NCAA finals, but a last-second takedown and rideout proved to be the difference in his semifinal bout. Briggs ended up in third place at NCAAs and will be one of Schurg’s top challengers in 2020. Two-time All-American Dan Kilroy is in his final season at TCNJ and will look to close the gap this season after falling to Schurg and Briggs in Roanoke; he posted a 32-3 record last season. Both of Chicago’s All-Americans are switching places this season. Kyle Peisker will try to climb the podium at 174 after finishing in fifth place at 184 in 2019. AJ Aeberli and Jacob Krakow are the final two All-Americans that are back at 174, both of them secured their first All-American finish in 2019 and poised to contend for an NCAA title in 2020. It’s worth noting the All-American Tanner Vasser and NCAA qualifier Solomon Nielson are also switching places; Nielson fell in the Round of 12 at 184 in 2019. Sawyer Massie failed to make it to NCAAs a season ago but finished in sixth place in 2018; the senior will look to get back to nationals in 2020 and secure his second All-American finish.
