Freshman Big Board Right Before Postseason Begins

With the high school postseason starting all across the country, it's time for another freshman Big Board.

We go in depth to discuss the top of this Big Board, as well as state and weight class representation on the latest episode of Who's #1: The Show.

Prior to entering high school, Carson Manville notched a freestyle win over the current #1 at 126, Patrick Glory. In December, the Wyoming Seminary (PA) star picked up a win over top-ranked 132-pounder Joey Silva in the Powerade finals.

Coming in at #2 is Alex Facundo of Davison High School in Michigan, who nearly made the Super 32 finals after winning Fargo in July. Facundo is one of the most efficient freshman on his feet we've seen in quite some time.

Victor Voinovich has been everything we expected he'd be for Brecksville (Ohio) and could very well be a huge part of one of the nation's best teams in the next year or two.

Travis Mastrogiovanni is one of two freshman starters on the country's #1-ranked team in Blair Academy (NJ) and is a pinning machine. Ryan Sokol of Simley (MN) drops not because of a loss, but due to the fact he's been injured all year. I would like to make sure he comes back 100 percent, because he is unquestionably one of the most talented young men in the country.

Maximo Renteria makes a big jump, leading a very strong class of California freshmen. He went from 27th all the way up to 11th. Expect Renteria to stay firmly entrenched at the top of this 2021 graduating class. Joining him in that California group is Isaac Salas, who maintains his spot and also helped Jacob Moon of Ohio make his way into the Top-20 when those two split at Ironman back in December.

Right now, the power states still hold sway over the Big Board. Immediately after the state tournaments, NHSCAs and FloNationals will be getting underway. Heading into the freestyle season, and for most of these guys their second year as Cadets, will provide us much more clarity on who has the ability to be a bona fide star at the high school level.

Remember, the whole point of the Big Board is to assess resumes and project beyond their freshman year. The list and rankings will undoubtedly change as the recruiting process starts to heat up for them next year, but for now, here are 50 solid names to keep an eye on as you prepare for what promises to be an incredible postseason of high school wrestling.
