Pennsylvania High School Wrestling Mini Boards

Class of 2023

An excellent senior class with some Pennsylvania legends closed out their high school careers back in March with many of the guys on this list finishing on the top of the podium. Rocco Welsh ran the table this season, finishing 43-0 along with a Who’s Number One win, a Super 32 title, a Powerade title, a win at the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic and dominated along the way to his second-straight PIAA AAA state championship. Welsh was also the #1 170-pounder in the country until falling in the U20 finals to Gabe Arnold at the U.S. Open. Welsh finished high school as a four-time PIAA finalist and a two-time PIAA champion.

Despite not participating in PIAA competition this season, Tyler Kasak finished #2 in the class of 2023 in Pennsylvania. After winning a U17 World silver medal last summer, Kasak trained with the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club this year while competing in college opens, where he finished 12-1 with his lone loss coming in sudden victory to Minnesota redshirt freshman Drew Roberts. Kasak’s lone high school match this season was a 3-2 win over Ryder Block at the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic. Kasak then went on to win a very deep 65 kg bracket at the U20 Open last month and has put himself in great position to make the U20 World team.

Two of the most exciting guys in the country closed out their high school careers with PIAA titles with Vinny Kilkeary winning his third, while Ty Watters won his second straight AAA crown. After returning from injury Sonny Sasso bumped up to 215 pounds for the postseason and dominated to his second state title. Despite a controversial stall call in rideouts in the state finals, Dylan Evans came out on top of a rivalry with Shawn Taylor for his second straight state title. Cael Nasdeo had a breakout season and dominated the second half of the year on his way to his first state title at 121 pounds.
