It's hard to overstate how much exciting college wrestling took place this past weekend. All seven conferences held their championships over the last few days and determined the majority of the qualifiers for the 2024 NCAA Championships that will take place in less than two weeks in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Hilton Coliseum will be rocking on Sunday afternoon as the #4 Iowa State Cyclones host the #11 Missouri Tigers in a massive matchup on the final day of the regular season.

All the usual caveats apply. Whether or not an upset occurred was determined strictly by rankings and results that look like upsets this week may not look like upsets by the end of the season or even by next week.

There was a fairly substantial amount of upsets in the eighth week of the 2023-24 NCAA D1 wrestling season.

The 2023 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational is set to go down on December 1-2 and will be the best in-season tournament of the year. Check out the below article for a breakdown and predictions of 125-141 at this year’s CKLV.

#7 Iowa and #10 Iowa State are set to wrestle the dual of the year Sunday at 3 pm Eastern inside Hilton Coliseum. This is Kevin Dresser’s best team since taking over in Ames and they not only have a real shot to win but might be the favorite. This would be coach Tom Brands’ first-ever loss to the Cyclones as head coach at Iowa.

Iowa State posted their best NCAA finish in the Kevin Dresser era last season at 11th. Despite losing key performers Marcus Coleman and Sam Schuyler from the upper half of the lineup, the Cyclones should continue to rise and will once again be pushing for a top-ten finish. Some huge transfers and a lot of movement will give the Cyclones an almost entirely new lineup next season.

The holiday tournaments are over, and the NCAA season is about to settle into its conference dual rhythm. We have some incredible matches slated for the D1 week 10 schedule. While there are only three NCAA events on the calendar this week, all three will attract significant numbers of ranked wrestlers. Here's a list of all the top-33 ranked wrestlers we could see at the Soldier Salute, Midlands, and the Southern Scuffle.

It won't be long til many of the nation's toughest teams head to Chattanooga for the 2023 Southern Scuffle. Iowa defeated Iowa State, 18-15, after each team won five matches. Bonus points were the difference for the Hawkeyes as they picked up major decisions from Spencer Lee, Cobe Siebrecht, and Nelson Brands. This dual also marked the season debut of Spencer Lee who kicked things off for Iowa at 125 pounds.
