The U17 World Championships have kicked off with Greco and will wrap up this weekend with men’s freestyle. Below is almost everything you need to know for men’s freestyle. I say almost because, with Russia and Belarus’ recently lifted ban, it’s hard to find data on their athletes and many of the ones going to Worlds did not compete at the European Championships. However, it’s probably safe to assume anyone they are bringing (they will show up in the entries and brackets as AIN), will be pretty good.

The 2023 U17 World Championships is live on FloWrestling from July 31-August 6. The men’s freestyle competition is August 4-6 at the Başakşehir Gençlik ve Spor İlçe Müdürlüğü Tesisleri in Istanbul, Turkey.

A rising junior at Valient Prep, Christian Castillo is the #11 overall recruit in the class of 2025. A U17 World silver medalist and Super 32 champion, he most recently made his second-straight U17 World Team. The Arizona native is currently ranked #1 in the country at 113 lbs. This year's U17 US Open is as deep as any tournament in recent memory. There aren't many top high schoolers who haven't registered, so wrestling fans should expect to see some of the best high school action of the year with a whole lot at stake. Here's what to expect at every weight.

On the Senior level, the US Open will set the stage for Final X, but there's plenty to watch at the U17 and U20 divisions as well. The U17 division will conclude with a best-of-three series that will decide the World Team, shake up the high school rankings, and establish some wrestlers' cases to be in Who's Number One. Every fall we see some of the best high schoolers in the country travel to Greensboro, N.C. to battle it out for a Super 32 belt. It seems every season that the brackets at Super 32 become deeper and deeper, with many ranked guys entered into each weight class. This weekend will be no different. Currently, there are over 160 guys ranked in the top 20 in their weight class entered for the 2022 Super 32.

There's nothing quite like Super 32. This year's field includes over 60% of the nation's 280 top-twenty-ranked wrestlers. That group includes eight of 14 #1's and six weights where the two highest-ranked wrestlers at the weight could square off for the number one spot.
