After a down year by Tom Ryan standards in 2022, the Buckeyes rebounded in 2023 by bringing home a team trophy from NCAAs. Despite losing valuable senior leadership from Malik Heinselman, Ethan Smith, Kaleb Romero, and Tate Orndorff, Ohio State is in a good position to bring home another trophy this year. While Jesse Mendez is planning to Olympic redshirt, this will be the debut season for a lot of the loaded 2022 #1 overall recruiting class.

U20 Nationals (formerly known as UWW Junior Nationals) is one of my favorite age-level tournaments every year. The top high school upperclassmen get to test themselves against the best first or second year college guys who are often hungry to compete coming out of redshirt. It's the first step in making the Junior World Team as the winner of this event will earn an automatic berth to the best-of-three wrestle-off series against the World Team Trials challenge tournament champion in June.

With wrestlers across three age divisions and two styles, Ohio State fans will have plenty of wrestling to watch at the US Open. Starting Friday, April 29, Ohio State fans can get a good look at where some current wrestlers stack up on the senior ladder and how a couple of key guys from one of the best recruiting hauls we’ve seen recently will compete at the college level.

A 13th place finish at the national tournament isn’t quite what Ohio State wrestling fans have become accustomed to under head coach Tom Ryan. However, they have a lot to be excited about with both the amount of talent returning and the fact that they are bringing in one of the best recruiting classes of all time.

There's no bigger event on the opening weekend of NCAA wrestling than the Michigan State Open. With double-digit D1 teams, we're sure to see incredible matches and rankings shakeups. Coralville, Iowa is hosting Junior and Senior Nationals. Below, we preview the senior men's freestyle weight classes and the junior men's freestyle weight classes. The latter also serves as the team trials for the UWW Junior World Championships.

One week after crowing the Cadet World Team, we get to watch the best wrestlers in the country aged 20 and under duke it out to make a World Team of their own.

The fourth-ranked 113-pounder in the country, Andre Gonzales, has committed to the Ohio State University. Gonzales won a California state title last year for Poway High School in the San Diego metro area.
