Penn State coach Cael Sanderson announced Monday that sophomore Robert Howard will likely miss the season and redshirt freshman Gary Steen will be the Nittany Lions' starting 125-pounder.

The last three years of NCAA wrestling have been anything but typical and the next few seasons are primed to stay on the peculiar end of the spectrum thanks to the extra year of eligibility granted to every wrestler who participated in the 2021 season.

One of my favorite age-level tournaments of the year has arrived - the Junior World Team Trials. The nation’s best high school upperclassmen and college underclassmen putting it on the line for a chance to represent their country overseas.

U20 Nationals (formerly known as UWW Junior Nationals) is one of my favorite age-level tournaments every year. The Hawkeyes will be the favorites to repeat as team champions in 2022, but we all saw what Penn State was able to do in the finals. Four finalists and four champions. With all four of those champions returning and the young star power the Nittany Lions are bringing in, this will be an incredibly fun team to watch.

What a nice little Valentine’s Day treat! The Doc Buchanan Invitational used to be one of the best tournaments in the state of California — it has now become one of the toughest tournaments in the country. 

In New Jersey history, there have been 14 individuals to make four state finals appearances in a career. In 2020, history could be rewritten as two wrestlers — Anthony Clark of Delbarton and Bergen Catholic’s Robert Howard — look to join that exclusive list. If both reach the finals this year, Clark and Howard would be the third four-time finalists for their respective schools in the last 20 years.
