There’s more than one way to reach high-level success — and this year’s women’s national team proves it. The top three finishers at every weight are on the USA Wrestling National Team, which leads to funding and first-in-line preference for international competitions.

The 2023 World Championships are over, and now the real work begins. The Olympic Games, unfortunately, shrinks to six weight classes in each style from 10 at the Worlds.

Below is a comprehensive list of the wrestlers who competed at the 2023 World Championships, results from the tournament, and the colleges they attended. Some wrestlers are listed twice since they attended multiple schools.

The 2023 Senior World Championships will occur in Belgrad, Serbia, September 16-24. Team USA will send 10 wrestlers per style to Belgrade to compete against the best wrestlers in the world. There was talk of a youth movement at this year’s Final X in Newark, New Jersey. Five participants were teenagers, and only Amit Elor had made a previous senior-level World team.

Final X, presented by Tezos, determines the 2023 U.S. Senior World Teams in all three Olympic disciplines: men’s and women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman. Final X is the last leg in the World Team Trials process.

The second Ranking Series event of the year, the 2023 Ibrahim Moustafa, is underway in Alexandria Egypt. Some of Team USA’s best from the men’s and women’s freestyle squads are competing against the best in the world, on February 24-February 26. Adaugo Nwachukwu's wrestling journey seems nearly impossible. Nwachukwu left Nigeria for California in 2018 and found the sport as a sophomore. She expected rings and ropes but realized quickly that high school wrestling was far different than the theatrics seen on television.
