A native of Oceanport, New Jersey, Cannon was a four year letter winner at blair academy compiling a record of 75-17 during his time at the prep school. Cannon was a two time prep national champion and three time finalist while also finishing fourth at the Fargo cadet freestyle nationals. Cannon made his way to the Northwestern campus in the fall of 2019 and put together a nice redshirt year at 125 pounds, going 19-2. Cannon's lone two losses came at the end of his redshirt season at the Midlands championships against Princeton's Patrick Glory, and UPenn's Michael Colaiocco. Cannon won every open tournament he entered, competing in the freshman/sophomore division before finishing seventh at the Midlands.
