CKLV is the main focus for most college wrestling fans this weekend, as it should be. However, don’t think that the weekend is over Saturday evening. On Sunday at 2 pm Eastern Lehigh travels to State College to take on Penn State. While Penn State should run away with the dual, there is one huge match you should tune in to see - 133 lbs. #1 Ryan Crookham / Connor McGonagle vs #4 Aaron Nagao.

With names like NCAA champion Darian Cruz and 2x All-American Scotty Parker Lehigh University has been a destination for some of PA’s best young lightweight prospects. If Ryan Crookham can stay relatively healthy over the course of his NCAA career, he has a great chance of carrying the lightweight Mountain Hawk torch.

While most weight classes have a lot of familiar faces due to the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA, there was a mass exodus at 141 lbs after the 2021-2022 season. 1-5 in FloWrestling’s final season ranking all graduated and moved on. After 2021 we shouldn’t take normal day-to-day living for granted. It was great to be back in the Giant Center for a three-day tournament. The social aspect of the three-day reunion of former coaches, teammates, rivals, and friends was lost last year as the competitors were shuffled in and out of the Giant Center as quickly as possible to prevent mass interaction. It is what makes Pennsylvania wrestling so special. So many former competitors giving back to the sport. You can often find college level coaching staffs sitting in the corner at the PIAA State Championships. It's a special three days, and I was grateful it was back to normal. In this article I’m going to share a few stats and some thoughts I had as I sat behind the microphone matside in Hershey.

The PIAA Championships return to FloWrestling March 10-12. All bouts will be streamed live starting with AA on Thursday morning at 9am EST. This four part series will preview each bracket for lightweights (106-138) and heavyweights (145-285) on both the AA and AAA side. AA release will be followed by AAA. Yet another injury will deprive wrestling fans of a match at Who's #1. Ryan Crookham, who was slated to take on Nic Bouzakis at 132 lbs, has unfortunately suffered an injury and will not be able to recover in time to wrestle October 3rd.

Nic Bouzakis and Ryan Crookham are the top two wrestlers in the country — not just at 132, but for the entire class of 2022. Their match is made more interesting by the fact that the two have met twice in the last two years, and each owns a win over the other.

The number two recruit in the nation in the class of 2022 will be staying close to home. Ryan Crookham of Notre Dame Green Pond in Easton, PA, announced today on social media that he will be continuing his academic and athletic career at Lehigh University, just down the road in Bethlehem.
