The wrestling Olympic Trials are set to go down in State College, Pennsylvania April 19-20. The winner of every bracket will earn the right to represent the United States at the Olympics in Paris this coming August. It’s an Olympic year! Or very nearly an Olympic year. Paris 2024 will be here before we know it, and we need to figure out who Team USA’s men’s freestyle Olympians will be.

Though Thomas Gilman fell to Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakarov in the final at the 2022 World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, Gilman’s silver-medal performance also earned him a spot at Final X Wrestling 2023.

Final X 2023 presented by Tezos is set to go down on June 10 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. This event will feature the best wrestlers in the United States as they seek to make Team USA’s 2023 World Team. One of the biggest matches of the night will be the rematch from Final X 2022 between Thomas Gilman and Zane Richards.

2021 World champion and 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Thomas Gilman (State College, Pa./Titan Mercury WC/Nittany Lion WC) has officially accepted his berth in Final X. He will battle for the 57 kg spot on the 2023 U.S. World Team in men’s freestyle wrestling in Final X, presented by Tezos, on Saturday, June 10 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The 2023 Dan Kolov - Nikola Petrov International wrestling tournament is currently underway in Bulgaria with some of Team USA’s top wrestlers competing from March 2-5. Check out the below article for all the results for Team USA, links to the live streams, and a schedule of the tournament.

Per a roster release from USA Wrestling, Thomas Gilman will be competing at 61 kg at the Dan Kolov this weekend. This is massive information as it will be the first time in Gilman’s career that he will be competing at 61 kg at an official UWW or USA Wrestling event. In 2020 Gilman competed at 61 kg against Frank Perrelli at NLWC Live Event 3 and at 132 lbs against Seth Gross in 2021 at WRTC Underground #2.

Seth Gross (61 kg), Yianni Diakomihalis (65 kg), and Kyle Snyder (97 kg) wrestle in the semifinals while Thomas Gilman (57 kg), Kyle Dake (74 kg), and J'den Cox (92 kg) go for gold. The action begins at 11 a.m. Eastern on FloWrestling.

Team USA has a big session with lots of hardware on the line. Zain Retherford (70 kg), Jordan Burroughs (79 kg), and David Taylor (86 kg) are in the semis while Helen Maroulis (57 kg), Tamyra Mensah-Stock (68 kg), and Amit Elor (72 kg) wrestle for gold medals. The action begins at 10:45 a.m. Eastern.

Men’s Freestyle at the World Championships will start Thursday morning in Belgrade, Serbia. Before the action kicks off, let’s take a look at each American’s path to the world finals!

The U.S. women's freestyle wrestling team has a big day ahead beginning at 10:45 a.m. Eastern. Sarah Hildebrandt (50 kg) and Dom Parrish (53 kg) wrestle their semifinal bouts while Jacarra Winchester (55 kg) goes for bronze and Kayla Miracle (62 kg) goes for gold.
