Week 2 of the 2021-22  collegiate season is nigh upon us. So let's take a look ahead at this schedule of events and highlight some of the most crucial potential matchups we could see.

Below is a list of all the instances in whcih we could see ranked opponents wrestle, with extra attention paid to the most intriguing bouts. Schedule courtesy of SHP (all times Eastern).

Thursday

Missouri at North Dakota State, 8:00 PM

133: #12 Matt Schmitt, Mizzou vs HM Kellyn March, NDSU

157: #10 Jarett Jacques, Mizzou vs #11 Jared Franek, NDSU

165: #5 Keegan O’Toole, Mizzou vs #6 Luke Weber, NDSU

The middleweights are the big draw to this very solid midweek dual, as Jacques, Franek, and Weber were all bloodrounders at the 2021 NCAAs. O'Toole finished third last March and then flew to Russia to win a junior world gold medal.

197: #5 Rocky Elam, Mizzou vs #15 Owen Pentz, NDSU

285: #11 Zach Elam, Mizzou vs #24 Brandon Metz, NDSU

Friday

Pittsburgh at Buffalo, 7:00 PM

133: #8 Mickey Phillippi, Pitt vs HM Derek Spann, Buff

Virginia at Maryland, 7:00 PM

197: HM Jaron Smith, Maryland vs #16 Jay Aiello, Virginia

Little Rock vs Wisconsin, 8:00 PM

133: HM Paul Bianchi, LR vs #23 Kyle Burwick, Wisc

Saturday

Minnesota, North Dakota State, South Dakota State at Bison Open, hosted by North Dakota State, 11:00 AM

141: #10 Clay Carlson, SDSU; #22 Marco Polanco, MINN

149: #19 Michael Blockhus, MINN; #21 Zach Price, SDSU

157: #5 Brayton Lee, MINN; #11 Jared Franek, NDSU

165: #6 Luke Weber, NDSU; #18 Andrew Sparks, MINN; #20 Tanner Cook, SDSU

The Bison Open brings together the two Dakota's and their neighbor, Minnesota, in a battle of the Upper Midwest. At 165 we might see three competitors all ranked in the top 24.

174: #18 Cade DeVos, SDSU; #21 Jared Krattiger, MINN

197: #12 Tanner Sloan, SDSU; #15 Owen Pentz, NDSU

285: #1 Gable Steveson, MINN; #24 Brandon Metz, NDSU; HM AJ Nevills, SDSU

Clarion vs Rutgers, 10:00 AM

125: HM Joey Fischer, Clarion vs HM Dylan Shawver, Rutgers

141: HM Seth Koleno, Clarion vs #4 Sebastian Riveria, Rutgers

Chattanooga vs Clarion, 11:30 AM

125: #24 Fabian Gutierrez, CHAT vs HM Joey Fischer, Clarion

141: HM Francisco Valdes, CHAT vs HM Seth Koleno, Clarion

Chattanooga vs Rutgers, 1:00 PM

125: #24 Fabian Gutierrez, CHAT vs HM Dylan Shawver, Rutgers

141: HM Francisco Valdes, CHAT vs #4 Sebastian Riveria, Rutgers

184: HM Matthew Waddell, CHAT vs #5 John Poznanski, Rutgers

Oklahoma at West Virginia, 2:00 PM

125: #22 Joey Prata, OK vs #9 Killian Cardinale, WVU

Prata fought his way into the top 24 with a victory over Illinois' Justin Cardani, among others, at the Michigan State Open. Can he keep the momentum going with an away dual victory over the Mountaineer's All-American 125-pounder?

Oklahoma State at Stanford, 5:00 PM

149: Kaden Gfeller, OK State vs #5 Jaden Abas, Stanford

165: #7 Travis Wittlake, OK State vs #1 Shane Griffith, Stanford

The toughest challenge (according to the rankings, so your mileage may vary) for any of the number one ranked wrestlers this week. Grifith won this matchup two seasons ago in the semifinals of the Southern Scuffle

174: #20 Dustin Plott, OK State vs HM Tyler Eischens, Stanford

Penn State vs Oregon State, 7:00 PM

133: #1 Roman Bravo-Young, PSU vs #19 Devan Turner, OSU

141: #1 Nick Lee, PSU vs #12 Grant Willits, OSU

149: HM Beau Bartlett, PSU vs #22 Cory Crooks, OSU

157: Joe Lee, PSU vs #12 Hunter Willitts, OSU

Almost an entire slate of potential ranked matchups in this dual, one of two Penn State has scheduled for the day. Although Joe Lee isn't currently ranked, he showed a lot of promise at 165 last season. He could be very dangerous down at 157 after having spent another year in the PSU wrestling room.

174: #1 Carter Starocci, PSU vs #11 Mateo Olmos, OSU

197: #2 Max Dean, PSU vs HM JJ Dixon, OSU

285: #5 Greg Kerkvliet, PSU vs #21 Gary Traub, OSU

SIU Edwardsville at Northwestern, 7:00 PM

165: HM Colton McKiernan, SIUE vs #16 Lucas Davison, Northwestern

Northern Illinois at Rider, 7:00 PM

165: #16 Izzak Olejnik, NIU vs HM Joe Casey, Rider

Sunday

Air Force, Appalachian State, Arizona State, Duke, Gardner-Webb, Indiana, Kent State at Mountaineer Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State, 9:00 AM

125: #4 Brandon Courtney, ASU; #19 Codi Russell, App State; #21 Jake Ferri, Kent State

133: #7 Michael McGee, ASU; #16 Jared Van Vleet, Air Force; #24 Brock Hudkins, Indiana; HM Sean Carter, App State

141: #19 Cayden Rooks, Indiana; HM Anthony Brito, App State

149: #4 Kyle Parco, Arizona State; #9 Jonathan Millner, App State; #10 Josh Finesilver, Duke; HM Graham Rooks, Indiana

157: #4 Jacori Teemer, ASU; HM Cody Bond, App State; Enrique Munguia, Kent State

165: #8 Anthony Valencia, ASU; #24 William Formato, App State; HM Rodrick Mosley, Gardner-Webb

174: #7 Matt Finesilver, Duke; HM Thomas Flitz, App State; HM Nick South, Indiana

285: #4 Cohlton Schultz, ASU; #12 Wyatt Hendrickson, Air Force

Hendrickson was on the men's freestyle junior world team this summer while Schultz was in Norway with the Greco-Roman senior world team. They've yet to wrestle each other in folkstyle, but perhaps we see that happen in the finals of the Mountaineer Invitational.

American, Binghamton, Brown, Franklin & Marshall, Navy at Jon Kaloust Bearcat Open, hosted by Binghamton, 9:00 AM

184: #10 Lou DePrez, Binghamton; #21 David Key, Navy

Army West Point, Bloomsburg, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Harvard, Hofstra, Lehigh, Lock Haven, Long Island, Oregon State, Penn, Sacred Heart, VMI at Journeymen Collegiate Classic, Manheim, PA, 9:00 AM

Pools are still being finalized in this round-robin competition, so we won't know the matchups just yet but are some potential bouts we are hoping to see.

133: #9 Michael Colaiocco, Penn vs #18 Malyke Hines, Lehigh

141: #7 Dresden Simon, Central Michigan vs #12 Grant Willits, Oregon State

Simon only wrestled on match at the Michigan State Open. Hopefully he is good to go for a round-robin in Pennsylvania that includes a match with fellow NCAA qualifier Willits. These two have never met before in college.

149: #14 PJ Ogunsanya, Army vs #22 Cory Crooks, Oregon State

157: #10 Josh Humphreys, Lehigh vs #20 Markus Hartman, Army

174: #15 Ben Pasiuk, Army vs HM Logan Brown, Lehigh

197: Michael Beard, Penn State vs #22 JT Brown, Army

285: #10 Matt Stencel, Central Michigan vs #13 Jordan Wood, Lehigh

Somehow these two All-American heavies have never crossed paths on a collegiate mat.

Campbell, NC State, Virginia Tech at Wolfpack WC Open, hosted by NC State, 9:00 AM

125: #8 Sam Latona, Virginia Tech; #10 Jakob Camacho, NC State; HM Anthony Molton, Campbell

133: #4 Korbin Myers, Virginia Tech; #15 Jarrett Trombley, NC State; HM Dominic Zaccone, Campbell

141: #21 Sam Hillegas, Virginia Tech

149: #2 Tariq Wilson, NC State; #7 Bryce Andonian, Virginia Tech; #17 Joshua Heil, Campbell

157: HM Connor Brady, Virginia Tech

165: #11 Thomas Bullard, NC State; HM Troy Nation, Campbell

174: #3 Mekhi Lewis, Virginia Tech; #4 Hayden Hidlay, NC State; #12 Austin Murphy, Campbell

we can't think of a better early-season test for either Lewis or Hidlay at their new weights.

184: #3 Trent Hidlay, NC State; #7 Hunter Bolen, Virginia Tech; #20 Caleb Hopkins, Campbell

197: #18 Isaac Trumble, NC State; HM Levi Hopkins, Campbell; HM Andy Smith, Virginia Tech

285: 18 Nathan Traxler, Virginia Tech; HM Owen Trephan, NC State

CSU Bakersfield at Michigan, 1:00 PM

133: #11 Chance Rich, CSUB vs #17 Dylan Ragusin, Michigan

Ragusin looks to bounce back after taking two losses (albeit to ranked foes) at the MSU Open while 2021 round of 12-finisher Rich will look to provide more evidence that he is a top 133-pound contender.

141: #23 Angelo Martinoni, CSUB vs #5 Stevan Micic, Michigan

Purdue at Cleveland State, 2:00 PM

184: #16 Max Lyon, Purdue vs HM DeAndre Nassar, CSU

197: #14 Thomas Penola, Purdue vs #24 Ben Smith, CSU

Northern Colorado at Missouri, 2:00 PM

125: HM Jace Koelzer, UNCO vs #20 Noah Surtin, Mizzou

133: HM Mosha Schwartz, UNCO vs #12 Matt Schmitt, Mizzou

141: #15 Andrew Alirez, UNCO vs #9 Allan Hart, Mizzou

We've been waiting for a true breakout performance from Alirez on the college scene and this is a great opportunity as Hart is a two-time national qualifier who advanced to the bloodround in 2021.

174: #19 Jackson Hemauer, UNCO vs #15 Peyton Mocco, Mizzou

197: HM Alan Clothier, UNCO vs #5 Rocky Elam, Mizzou
