Thomas Gilman IN For 2021 Worlds At 57kg

After winning an Olympic Bronze medal in Tokyo, Thomas Gilman has accepted his world team spot at 57kg. Gilman will compete at the 2021 World Championships in Oslo, Norway - October 2nd-10th. Per USA Wrestling guidelines, all Olympic medalists automatically earn the world team spot at the same weight class in which they medaled. Medalists have until August 15th to declare their intent and Thomas Gilman announced his decision to compete at Worlds via his Instagram a day early:

Thomas Gilman became the 7th Olympic Medalist (of 9) for Team USA to declare his intention to compete at the 2021 World Championships. Only Adeline Gray and Gable Steveson have yet to release their decision. Because those medalists are automatically on the world team, only the weights without medalists will be in contention at World Team Trials September 11-12. You can see who all is registered for World Team Trials so far HERE.

Also of note for Gilman, has earned the #4 seed at the 2021 World Championships. UWW only seeds the top 4 wrestlers and they will not change prior to Worlds. Should all seeded wrestlers attend worlds they will be the following at 57kg: #1 Zavur Uguev (RUS), #2 Ravi Kumar (IND), #3 Nurislam Sanayev (KAZ), #4 Thomas Gilman (USA). Thomas Gilman will be on the same side of the bracket as Olympic Gold medalist, Uguev, and will have the chance for revenge on his quest for World Gold.
