The last time USA Wrestling put on its 16U National Duals, Illinois and Minnesota staged a pair of dramatic, down-to-the-wire championship battles.

Minnesota scored a pair of victories in the last two matches to seize the Greco title in 2019 and then swept the final six bouts of the freestyle finals to rally past Illinois again in Spokane. With it, Minnesota scored its first tournament title sweep since 2007.

Many of the key figures in those duals have since surged into the national rankings and some have signed letters of intent or made commitments to major college programs.

A new collection of rising stars takes the mat this week in Westfield, Indiana, where USA Wrestling’s 16U National Duals returns after a one-year hiatus. The four-day tournament, which will be streamed live on Trackwrestling, kicks off Thursday with Greco-Roman action.

Minnesota and Illinois figure to be in the title mix again, but there’s talent spread across the roster list.

Here’s a look at 15 wrestlers to watch this weekend:

Sawyer Bartelt (Florida) — Bartelt will be a sophomore next fall, but he’s already a three-time Florida state medalist. He placed fifth as a seventh-grader, second as an eighth-grader and went undefeated this past season at 195 pounds.

Jayden Colon (Illinois) — A 2019 U15 Greco World Team member who swept the titles in both styles that year at the U15 Pan Am Championships. Placed fourth this spring in Greco at the Cadet World Team Trials.

Angelo Ferrari (Oklahoma) — An Oklahoma state finalist this past season who’s coming off a third-place finish in freestyle at the Cadet World Team Trials.

McCrae Hagarty (Iowa) — Captured an Iowa state title at 182 to complete a 38-0 sophomore season. Placed fourth this spring in freestyle at the Cadet World Team Trials.

Koy Hopke (Wisconsin) — One of the top big guys in the 2024 class. Hopke went undefeated this past season en route to a Wisconsin state title. He followed that up by placing third in freestyle at the Cadet World Team Trials.

Jaxon Joy (Ohio) — Reached the Ohio state finals this past season as a freshman. Coming off a title-winning performance in freestyle at last month’s Central Regional.

Vincent Kilkeary (Pennsylvania) — A Super 32 champ who spent part of the season ranked No. 1 nationally at 106 before moving up to 113.

Anthony Knox (New Jersey) — One of the top prospects in the Class of 2025. Placed fourth at 106 last fall at the Super 32.

Mack Mauger (Idaho) — Followed up a state championship season this year as a freshman by reaching the 45-kilogram finals in both styles at the Cadet World Team Trials.

Landon Robideau (Minnesota) — Will enter his freshman season as a two-time Minnesota state finalist. Lost a pair of narrow decisions each of the past two seasons in the state finals against nationally-ranked Jore Volk.

Jace Roller (Oklahoma) — Placed third this past season in a loaded Oklahoma Class 6A 126-pound bracket. Followed that up with a fifth-place showing at 60 kilograms in April at the Cadet World Team Trials.

Logan Swensen (Minnesota) — Compiled a 34-1 record and reached the Minnesota state finals this past season as a freshman. His lone loss came in overtime against Alan Koehler, a Fargo finalist who buzzed through the 2019 16U Duals in both styles.

Nick Treaster (Kansas) — A two-time Kansas state champ who swept titles in both styles last weekend at the Southern Plains Regional.

Tyler Vazquez (New Jersey) — A 2019 Beast of the East finalist. Vazquez has placed third each of the past two seasons at the New Jersey state meet.

De’Alcapon Veazy (Indiana) — Turned in a dominant freestyle performance in April at the U15 Championships, where won the 85-kilogram title.
