With fewer than half of the division 1 teams in action and without the traditional open tournament format, this has to be the fewest matches on record for an opening weekend of NCAA wrestling. Still, we had a handful of upsets. Take a look at which guys upped their stock with a big win. If you saw an upset I missed, please let me know with an email to david.bray@flosports.tv or a dm on Twitter to @_davidbray.

Tough day for Vega, but really nice work by Connor Brown and Brandon Kaylor. Brown is now on his third roster and once represented the Jackrabbits. This could be the start of a good season for him.

No higher ranked wrestler was safe in Fargo this weekend as Zach Price was on a tear knocking off both Matt Schmitt and Devan Turner. Schmitt got an upset of his own over Turner as did NDSU's Kellyn March.

133 - #24 Zach Price, South Dakota State D;7-5 #12 Matt Schmitt, Missouri

The only top ten upset of the weekend went down in Blacksburg. This win combined with Bryce Andonian's finals appearance at UWW Junior Nationals in November will give Hokie fans plenty to be optimistic about.
149 - #20 Bryce Andonian, Virginia Tech D;12-9 #9 Joshua Heil, Campbell

DeVos took two losses, but they were to Willits who's solid and coming off a productive redshirt season, and to Keegan O'Toole who is battling for the Missouri starting spot with #13 Jarrett Jacques. O'Toole's dominant win here could help his chances. Will Andrew Spey and Kyle Bratke rank O'Toole or Jacques this week? Only time will tell.
157 - #22 Hunter Willits, Oregon State D;4-3 #17 Cade DeVos, SDSU
157 - Keegan O'Toole, Missouri F;2:10 #17 Cade DeVos, SDSU

Keating over Formato, but otherwise 165 was quiet.
165 - Jake Keating, Virginia D;7-5 #24 William Formato, Appalachian State

A #21 over #19 upset wouldn't normally be that exciting, but Clothier was 3-0 over Samuelson last year, so I'm sure Tate was fired up with this one.
184 - #21 Tate Samuelson, Wyoming D;3-1 #19 Alan Clothier, Northern Colorado

Cahill makes a case for himself with a win over Jordan Earnest. Nice start to the season for that young man.
285 - Tobin Cahill, Buffalo D;8-2 #25 Jordan Earnest, Ohio
