With the season being so close, it’s more than time to start speculating about who will compete for NCAA titles in March, starting with the lightest weight class. Unfortunately, with the Ivy League canceling their winter sports season there will be a couple of names not on this list such as Vito Arujau and Pat Glory.

Spencer Lee, Iowa

Spencer Lee is the two-time reigning national champion and was a heavy favorite to three-peat after going undefeated in 2020. The Hawkeye put up absurd stats last season en route to winning the Hodge. He had a bonus rate of over 94 percent and outscored opponents 234-18. Lee won’t just be a heavy favorite to repeat as national champion but to repeat as Hodge Trophy winner as well.

Nick Suriano, Rutgers

While currently listed at 133 on the Rutgers roster, it is highly speculated that Nick Suriano will wrestle at 125 this season as it is closer to his Olympic weight class of 57 kg. This could set up a rematch of the 2018 NCAA final between Suriano and Lee, in which Lee won 5-1. In 2019 Suriano moved up and won the 133-lb NCAA title, beating Daton Fix in the finals.

A rather short list of title contenders at 125 lbs this season. Did someone get snubbed? Will someone end up shocking the nation?
