Friday-Sunday, October 9-11

These are the 10 quarterfinals I'm most excited for and are can't miss wrestling. With the quad laser view and FloZone making its triumphant return tonight, you will be able to watch all of these even if multiple are bing wrestled at the same time!

1) 74 kg: Ryan Deakin vs David Carr

A rematch of the CKLV semifinals, this match is a must watch for any NCAA fan. That CKLV loss was the only loss of the season for Carr last year. Both wrestlers have looked great so far with three tech falls a piece.

2) 86 kg: Taylor Lujan vs Gabe Dean

It sure is good to see both of these men back on the mat. The first possible preview from FloWrestling’s 8-man 195lb bracket. Dean has looked sharp coming out of retirement so far. Lujan has looked strong as an ox.

3) 74 kg: Anthony Valencia vs Hayden Hidlay

Two NCAA weights apart last season, the two now meat in the middle at 74 kg. Hidlay has a little history with Zahid, but has never met Anthony. Can he stop the blast double? Will we see a flying squirrel? Freestyle Anthony Valencia is so much fun to watch.

4) 65 kg: Matthew Kolodzik vs Jaydin Eierman

Matthew Kolodzik; still wrestling extremely fundamental and toughing out hard fought victories. Jaydin Eierman; still having fun with it and doing funky things like locking up a cradle mid scramble to pin Ethan Lizak. Who wins, the fundamentals or the scrambles?

5) 57 kg: Vito Arujau vs Jakob Comancho

After a good opening round for Brody Teske, I thought his match with Jakob Comancho would be highly competitive. Comancho was having none of that and won 10-0. He and Vito will put up a lot of points.

6) 65 kg: Joey McKenna vs Andrew Alirez

Andrew Alirez is an absolute freak at freestyle. Now, Joey McKenna is as technically sound as they come, so I’m not saying he’s for sure on upset alert, but I am saying you aren’t going to want to miss this match.

7) 57 kg: Sam Latona vs Jack Mueller

Get familiar with the name Sam Latona. A redshirt freshman at Virginia Tech, he has looked great so far today. He took out five seed Shelton Mack 12-4 in the round of 16. Can he do the same to four seed Jack Mueller?

8) 125 kg: Jordan Wood vs Mason Parris

People forget that Jordan Wood is good at freestyle. He did win a Cadet World silver medal in 2014. Parris’ Junior World medal is fresh in people’s minds however. Wood gritted out a tough first round win over Zach Elam while Parris picked up a 9-4 win over Nebraska’s Lance.

9) 86 kg: Trent Hidlay vs David McFadden

Two years ago during Hidlay’s redshirt year McFadden won their only meetup in the tiebreakers. However this is almost two years later and freestyle. For the record, Hayden Hidlay does have a freestyle win over McFadden.

10) 97 kg: Kollin Moore vs Ty Walz

Ty Walz had to use his man strength to take out Lucas Davison in the round of 16. Can he do the same to Kollin Moore?
