On Friday, USA Wrestling released a roster for the Granma Cup and Cerro Pelado tournaments in Havana, Cuba. Two-time world champion J'den Cox was listed as a competitor at either 86kg or 97kg.
Cox has been secretive about his 2020 weight class plans to this point but just announced to USA Wrestling's Taylor Miller that he will be wrestling 97kg in Cuba on Saturday and Sunday, February 15-16.
Cox's move to 97kg sets up a potential Olympic Trials final with Olympic gold medalist and two-time world champion Kyle Snyder. Cox and Snyder have not wrestled each other recently but had a competitive rivalry through high school that extended into college.
Snyder won their two most recent matches at the 2015 US Open and in the 2015 NCAA semifinals.
If Cox makes the Olympic team, his most anticipated matchup will be against Olympic gold medalist and four-time world champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev, who is widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound wrestler in the world.
