Class 1A in the great state of Iowa is just around the corner from postseason wrestling. Here's what you need to know.

Class 1A postseason action kicks off on February 8 with the 16 Sectional tournaments. From those sectionals, the top two placers will move on to the District tournaments on February 15. The top two finishers from all eight District tournaments will advance to the 2020 Iowa High School State Tournament.

Class 1A postseason action kicks off on February 8 with the 16 Sectional tournaments. From those sectionals, the top two placers will move on to the District tournaments on February 15. The top two finishers from all eight District tournaments will advance to the 2020 Iowa High School State Tournament. 

District 1 - Denver

Sectional 1 - Lake Mills, Sectional 2 - Nashua-Plainfield

Class 1A District 1 will be held at Denver and feature 28 ranked wrestlers, the most of any District in class 1A. Eighteen of those ranked wrestlers will come from the Lake Mills Sectional and the other 10 will compete at the Nashua-Plainfield Sectional. Each Sectional will have a top-ranked guy as 220-pounder Gideon Rollene of Northwood-Kensett will be at Lake Mills and heavyweight Chet Buss of North Butler-Clarksville will be at Nashua-Plainfield. The weight to watch will be heavyweight, as Buss will have to compete for one of the two qualifying spots against #2 Chandler Redenius of West Hancock, #5 Chris Eastman of Riceville, and #10 Dalton Dewitt of Central Springs. A handful of teams will be battling it out for the team title including Central Springs, West Hancock, Denver, and Nashua-Plainfield. 

District 2 - English Valleys

Sectional 3 - Mediapolis, Sectional 4 - BGM, Brooklyn

Class 1A District 2 will take place at English Valleys and feature 10 ranked wrestlers, the least of any District. Six of the ranked wrestlers will come from the Mediapolis Sectional and the other four will compete at the BGM, Brooklyn Sectional. Marcel Lopez, the 113-pounder from New London, will be the lone top-ranked wrestler in the field. 160 will be the weight to watch here as #2 Benjamin Smith of Iowa Valley-Marengo will have to face off with #3 Gabe Carter of New London. New London likely will run away with the team title in this District. 

District 3 - MVAOCOU

Sectional 5 - Missouri Valley, Sectional 6 - Woodbury Central

Class 1A District 3 will happen at MVAOCOU and feature 19 ranked wrestlers. Sectionals are split fairly evenly as 10 ranked wrestlers will come from the Woodbury Central Sectional, and the other nine will compete in the Missouri Valley Sectional. Logan-Magnolia’s 152-pound Briar Reisz will be the only #1-ranked guy in the District. The weight to watch will be 120 as #2 Hagen Heistand, #9 Ayden Toms, and #10 Aiden Christiansen will all be after the two qualifying spots. #5-ranked Logan-Magnolia will be the heavy favorite to bring home a District title. 

District 4 - Pleasantville

Sectional 7 - Interstate 35-Truro, Sectional 8 - Ogden

Class 1A District 4 will be at Pleasantville and feature 11 ranked wrestlers. This is another District with balanced Sectionals as Interstate 35-Truro has six ranked competitors while Ogden will have five. There will be no #1-ranked wrestlers competing at this District, but the weight to watch will be 138 as it will have #6 Sherman Hayes of East Union and #7 Trae Ehlen of Mount Ayr. This team race will truly be wide open as no team will have more than two ranked wrestlers. 

District 5 - Sioux Central

Sectional 9 - Manson NW Webster, Sectional 10 - Sibley-Ocheyedan

Class 1A District 5 will be held at Sioux Central and feature 20 ranked wrestlers. Thirteen ranked wrestlers will compete at the Sibley-Ocheyedan Sectional while the other seven will compete at the Manson NW Webster Sectional. West Sioux’s three-time defending champ #1 Adam Allard will begin his quest for a fourth state title at this District. The weight to watch will be 182, as defending state champion #2 Treyton Cacek of GTRA, #4 Carson Lynott of West Sioux, and #8 Brodie Anderson of Manson NW Webster will all be vying for one of the two qualifying spots. #4 West Sioux will be the favorite to win a team title here.

District 6 - Starmont

Sectional 11 - East Buchanan, Sectional 12 - MFL, MarMac

Class 1A District 6 will take place at Starmont and feature 21 ranked wrestlers. This is the most unbalanced of the Sectionals as the East Buchanan Sectional has 17 ranked wrestlers, and the MFL, MarMac Sectional will have four. A host of #1-ranked guys will be at this District, and they all hail from #1 Don Bosco. A murderers’ row for the Dons, Cade Tenold, Carson Tenold, and Thomas Even are ranked #1 at 160, 170, and 182, respectively. The weight to watch at this District will be 220, as #2 Jared Thiry of Don Bosco, #6 Isaac Steffans of Postville, and #8 Luke Recker of East Buchanan will have to face off to decide who gets the two qualifying spots. #1 Don Bosco will be an overwhelming favorite for a team title as their 10 ranked wrestlers make up almost half of the ranked wrestlers in the District.

District 7 - Underwood

Sectional 13 - ACGC, Sectional 14 - Riverside

Class 1A District 7 will happen at Underwood and will feature 12 ranked wrestlers. The Riverside Sectional will have eight ranked wrestlers while ACGC Sectional will feature four ranked wrestlers. All the top-ranked wrestlers from this District are from Underwood and include 106-pounder Gable Porter, 120-pounder Stevie Barnes, and 145-pounder Nick Hamilton. The weight to watch will be 113 as Nodaway Valley’s #5 Elliot Cooney and Riverside’s #10 Jace Rose will likely meet each other in the finals. #3 Underwood will be the favorite to win the team title as no other team brings more than two ranked competitors. 

District 8 - Wilton

Sectional 15 - Lisbon, Sectional 16 - West Branch

Class 1A District 8 will be at Wilton and feature 19 ranked wrestlers. Thirteen of those ranked wrestlers will compete at the Lisbon Sectional while the other six will compete at the West Branch Sectional. The #1 wrestlers competing here will all come from Lisbon as Robert Avila, Cael Happel, and Cole Clark claim the top spots at 132, 138, and 195, respectively. Cael Happel is class 1A’s highest-ranked P4P wrestler, coming in at #3, and will be looking for his fourth state title this year. The weight to watch will be 126 as #2 Aiden Noonan of Cascade, #4 Damon Huston of Midland, and #5 Kael Brisker of Wilton will be vying for one of the two qualifying spots. #2 Lisbon will be the heavy favorite to bring home a District title.
