This entire year the 133 pound weight class has been incredible, both in terms of depth and the variety of results. The seeds at Big Tens will reflect the chaos.

There's only two options for the one seed: Stevan Micic of Michigan and Austin DeSanto of Iowa. DeSanto is undefeated in conference and already has a win over Nick Suriano. Micic gets his chance against Suriano this Sunday in Piscataway.

Depending on how the Micic match goes, Suriano will either be the two or three seed. But then 4-7 is a round robin, as Luke Pletcher has beaten Ethan Lizak, Roman Bravo-Young just beat Pletcher, Ben Thornton has beaten RBY, and Lizak has a win over Thornton.

The battle for number one is difficult to choose sides on if Micic is victorious this weekend. Both will have wins over Suriano, Ben Thornton, and Dylan Duncan, with Micic holding a 14-1 major over Pletcher and DeSanto beating Lizak 6-1. The smart thing would be to seed 4-7 first, and whichever of Lizak or Pletcher gets the higher seed will in turn decide who gets the one.

Now, Pletcher beat Lizak 5-4 at CKLV, so how could the Buckeye be seeded below the Gopher? See the round robin mentioned above. There is not really an objective way to say who should be seeded where based solely on their conference performance, but I think the most likely scenario is this:

  1. Stevan Micic, Michigan: 7-0
  2. Austin DeSanto, Iowa: 6-0
  3. Nick Suriano, Rutgers
  4. Roman Bravo-Young, Penn State
  5. Luke Pletcher, Ohio State
  6. Ethan Lizak, Minnesota
  7. Ben Thornton, Purdue

Thornton will have his opportunity this week against Pletcher. If he loses, that probably reinforces the seeding I have above, as Thornton will have losses to both Pletcher and Lizak. If he wins, that could push Lizak down to the seven and vault Thornton to the four.

Getting back to the top three seeds, Suriano cannot leapfrog over DeSanto. A win over Micic unquestionably gives him the two seed, but there is a good debate about DeSanto and Micic for the one if the Wolverine remains unscathed after Sunday. And remember, previous year accomplishments do not factor in to NCAA seeding, so it would make sense they should not in conference seeding, either.

Last year at CKLV, DeSanto beat Micic 22-10. Then at NCAAs, Micic beat DeSanto 13-1 on his way to the finals. Micic being a returning NCAA finalist and Big Ten champ will likely shade coaches in his favor, as well as if he beats Suriano by more than two since DeSanto won 6-4 over the Scarlet Knight. The fact DeSanto missed two duals could also come into play, as he will end up with fewer conference wins than Micic. DeSanto's backup Paul Glynn won both of those matchups.

The one match that screws up the 8-12 seeds from being clean is Jens Lantz 5-4 win over Dylan Duncan. However, the Illini also has wins over Colin Valdiviez and Anthony Tutolo, and has not lost to Garrett Pepple. Thanks to his win over Tutolo, Pepple is the nine seed.

Tutolo just beat Valdiviez on Friday, so they're your 10 an 11 seeds, followed by Lantz at the 12. Jevon Parrish has wrestled for Nebraska in six of their past seven duals, which includes a loss to Duncan and a win over Orion Anderson, rounding out the seeds.

Since I already included one in which Micic beats Suriano, here is what the whole conference will shake out to if Suriano wins on Sunday.

  1. Austin DeSanto, Iowa
  2. Nick Suriano, Rutgers
  3. Stevan Micic, Michigan
  4. Roman Bravo-Young, Penn State
  5. Luke Pletcher, Ohio STate
  6. Ethan Lizak, Minnesota
  7. Ben Thornton, Purdue
  8. Dylan Duncan, Illinois
  9. Garrett Pepple, Indiana
  10. Anthony Tutolo, Michigan State
  11. Colin Valdiviez, Northwestern
  12. Jens Lantz, Wisconsin
  13. Jevon Parrish, Nebraska
  14. Orion Anderson, Maryland
