The Journeymen Fall Classic is known for kicking off the folkstyle season with serious heat. Here we take a look back on some of the best matches the event has had to offer, and see how far these guys have come. These competitors have gone from scraping it out at the Fall Classic to becoming blue-chip recruits, All-Americans, and NCAA national champions.

Yianni Diakomihalis vs Vito Arujau

This match was a state final rematch from the year prior, and it was Yianni coming out on top once again. Now these two are teammates, Yianni looking to follow up his true freshman title with another national title and Vito ready to burst onto the scene at 133 for Cornell.

Nick Suriano vs Alex Mackall

Bergen Catholic’s Nick Suriano was one of many perennial stars to show up to scrap at the Journeymen Fall Classic. Now it’s studs like #3 Jacob Cardenas keeping the Bergen Catholic contingency alive at the Fall Classic. Here, Suriano is battling against Ohio’s Alex Mackall, who is now an Iowa State Cyclone after transferring from Suriano’s current squad, Rutgers.

Vito Arujau vs Nick Suriano

This matchup is especially interesting now that these guys are both in college and may run into each other this season with Vito starting his career at 133 and Suriano rumored to be moving up from 125. In this go around it was Vito who was able to pull out a victory in the closing moments of the match.

Yianni Diakomihalis vs Kanen Storr

It’s nice to see that Yianni has stayed true to himself over the years. In the first match on this list when he was just a young freshman, we saw him hitting that dangerous counter cradle in the middle of a chaotic scramble just like he did on his way to winning a natty title as a true freshman. I’m sure you can guess what move he hits here in this match against Kanen Storr, who recently transferred to Michigan from Iowa State.

Hayden Hidley vs Mason Manville

Journeymen Fall Classic 2015

This is the third match in a row on this list that featured a wrestler who went on to make it to the NCAA finals this past year. Hayden Hidlay went 26-1 as a freshman for NC State with his only loss coming from Jason Nolf in the finals. On the other hand, you can look here and see how Mason Manville is fitting it to the talent-packed room at Penn State.

This is another chippy and entertaining chapter in these two wrestlers storied rivalry, the next chapter being the infamous Shoe Gate Scandal. Silva, like Kanen Storr, is heading to Ann Arbor to wrestle for the Michigan Wolverines.

Jason Renteria vs Brian Courtney

The Wrestling Nomad claimed it was going to be a good match on the commentary, and he wasn’t lying. These two go back and forth until the final whistle is blown, Renteria with his high output of attacks and Courtney with his non-stop scrambling. J-Rent found a new home with the Hawkeyes after wrestling for Nebraska last season and Courtney will be looking to make his debut for Virginia after redshirting last season.

Greg Diakomihalis vs Nic Bouzakis

These two went at it from start to finish. The savvy vet Greg D came out winning all of the exchanges, but the young bull Bouzakis came storming back and gave Greg D all he could handle. Tune in to Flo this weekend as Bouzakis will be looking to grab the Journeymen Fall Classic title that escaped him last year and Greg D will be looking to claim the top spot at Who’s Number 1.
