Kyle Dake and Zahid Valencia are set to collide for the first time this weekend and the stakes could not be any higher. By the end of Saturday's best-of-three series in State College, PA, one of the two world team hopefuls will have not only won a Final X title but also booked the USA's 79kg spot for Budapest, Hungary, later this year.

While both have spent the majority of their careers in the spotlight at the tops of podiums— practically at the same time—there have been some drastic differences between Dake and Valencia over the years: mainly weight.

Dake is one of college wrestling's biggest history makers after winning four NCAA titles in four different weight classes (141lb, 149lb, 157lb, 165lb) between 2010-13 at Cornell. Meanwhile, Valencia is a current Arizona State wrestler who is coming off his first Division I title at 174lb, which he followed up by taking out three-time NCAA champ Alex Dieringer in the 79kg title series at the World Team Trials Challenge tournament last month to reach Final X.

As the two prepare to face off at Rec Hall, let’s play a game of “remember when” to see just how crazy it is that these two will now be matching up against one another.

To make it easy, we will use the four straight years that Dake won his NCAA titles.

2010

Kyle Dake: Wins his first NCAA title at 141lb with a 7-3 decision over Montell Marion in the finals.

Zahid Valencia: Placed fifth in the high school division of FloNationals as an eighth-grader at 103lb.

2011

Kyle Dake: Goes 31-2 and wins his second straight national title at 149lb over Frank Molinaro, 8-1.

Zahid Valencia: Claims his first of four Ironman titles at 106lb.
