USA World Medal Count By State

Richard Immel Gable Steveson 17 JR Worlds

USA Wrestling had a tremendous 2017 and has been racking up medals at an impressive clip since 2011, when the cadet age group (15- to 17-year-olds) World Championship made a return to the UWW calendar.

From 2011 to 2017 in all styles (men's freestyle, women's freestyle, and Greco-Roman) and age groups (seniors, juniors, and cadets), Team USA won 142 total medals: 47 gold, 27 silver, and 68 bronze.

To get a better idea of where all the medals are coming from, we broke down the awards by home state. In these exercises, there is always some amount of disagreement as to which state certain wrestlers should "count" for in the final tally. In this case, we differed to the wrestler whenever possible and when in doubt picked the state that the wrestler lived in during high school. So in case you are wondering, Kurt McHenry is "counted" for Virginia, Mark Hall for Minnesota, and Thomas Gilman for Iowa.

With that said, below is a chart of all the USA Wrestling world medals from 2011 to 2017 by state.

And if you don't mind scrolling a bit, the table below has every medal winner listed by name.
