Defending 70kg world champion Magomed Kurbanaliev has lost to David Baev in the quarterfinals of the Russian National Championships. The back-and-forth battle between Kurbanaliev and Baev (a 2014 Cadet World champion and 2016 Junior Euro champion) did not disappoint and opened with both men trading 4-pointers to start Monday's match.
At the half, Kurbanaliev was visibly winded and needed a three-man pit crew to to attend to his arms, legs, and chest as he remained seated on the side of the mat.
The second period proceeded with a strange combination of offense and breathers by the Kurbanaliev. Baev took the lead late on, what looked like, a flash takedown from the quad pod position.
