Live Updates: Penn State v. Virginia Tech!

Dual of the year?  It may have my vote!  10 great matches, tons of upsets and PSU survives in an amazing dual with Virginia Tech.  Check out the play by play for this incredible dual meet!

125: #4 Joey Dance-VT v. #9 Jordan Conaway-PSU
1st Period: Underway here club and underhook by Dance, Conaway clears.  Dance in on a single.  Conaway dives over.  Dance getting height and comes around for 2.  Conaway immediately escapes.  2-1 Dance.  1:40 left. Duck attempt from Joey, nothing doing.  Joey going over/under Conaway keeping his hips back.  Hi crotch attempt from Conaway but Dance just steps out.  Period ends 2-1 Dance.

2nd Period: Conaway chooses bottom. (Fear the suckback!?) Conaway up and out for the escape.  2-2 the score.  Dance in on a QUICK low single.  Scrambling again.  Weird position.  Dance steps over but Conaway squares off and clears.  25 to go, Conaway taking a little ground REALLY nice low single goes and Dance tries to pass.  Dance stays on his back and gives up NEARFALL!  6-2 Conaway after 2!

3rd Period: Dance takes bottom! Up and out it's 6-3 Conaway.  1:17 to go.  Single and TD for Dance it's 6-5  Dance 22 to go! Dance cuts him!  7-5 final!  Dance thought they were tied!  Didn't realize he gave up NF?  IDK

PSU: 3 VT: 0

133: Kevin Norstrem-VT v. #6 Jimmy Gulibon-PSU
1st Period: Underway here Norstrem in on a nice single leg.  Whizzer by Gulibon but there's the 2 for Norstrem early!  2-0 early.  Escape for Gulibon makes it 2-1 Norstrem.  1:30 to go. Nice single by Jimmy, Norstrem passes the leg for the stalemate.  45 to go.  Really bad shot by Norstrem and a quick 2 for Jimmy.  Escaping immediately it's 3-3.  Quick shot and finish at the end of the first for Gulibon makes it 5-3 after 1!

2nd Period: Gulibon takes bottom and is up and out.  6-3 the score.  Fakes from Norstrem but no real committment.  Jimmy has that big ol knee brace on again.  Snap and an almost go-behind td for Jimmy but Norstrem recovers.  Jimmy is so money there.  2nd period ends 6-3 Jimmy.

3rd Period: Norstrem takes bottom.  Escape for Norstrem but there's the classic Hi-C from Gulibon and a quick finish.  8-4 Jimmy.  RT over a minute.  Gulibon rides him out 9-4 the final!

PSU: 6 VT: 0

141: #3 Devin Carter-VT v. Michael Waters-PSU
1st Period: Underway here and VT needs more than just a win from Carter. Scoreless after a minute.   Carter in on a single and finishes.  Has Waters in trouble and he's CLOSE to the fall and THERE IT IS!

PSU: 6 VT: 6

149: Sal Mastriani-VT v. #12 Zach Beitz-PSU
1st Period: Underway here and Mastriani in on a single, but Beitz scrambles out of it as he is known to do.  Another shot by Mastriani and Beitz NEARLY pancakes him  but Mastriani recovers.  Double by Beitz but Mastriani able to get his hips back. Hi Crotch again after both guys exchange shots and Mastriani gets the finish after a nice switch attempt by Beitz.  2-0 Mastriani after 1.

2nd Period: Beitz takes bottom and escapes.  2-1.  Another high crotch by Mastriani and it was a tough finish but he gets it on the edge.  Pretty close if you ask me and they'll challenge.  Call stands and it's 4-1 Mastriani.  Escape with short time on the clock and it's 4-2 after 2 in favor of Mastriani.

3rd Period: Mastriani takes bottom and escapes.  5-2 Mastriani, RT not a factor.  Nice single by Beitz but Mastriani runs his hips behins and gets the 2 to make it 7-2 with 40 to go! Escape Beitz makes it 7-3.  TD late by Beitz but it's too late.  7-5 Mastriani the final!

VT: 9 PSU: 6

157: David Wesley-VT v. Cody Law-PSU
1st Period: TD VERY early for Law and a quick escape makes it 2-1 Law just 15 seconds in! Front headlock for Law and a quick go behind makes it 4-1.  My body-language analysis says Wesley ain't feelin so hot.  Really flattened out after that TD but as I say that is up and out.  4-2 Law.  Law really active, pulling the head, good motion.  Single by Wesley countered well by Law.  4-2 after 1.

2nd Period: Law escapes and immediately runs to a leg and finishes.  7-2 Law and he's letting Wesley up for more.  Another single another finish and it's 9-3 Law with 25 to go.

3rd Period: Wesley takes bottom and is up and out.  Not sure of RT but Law has to be near if not over a minute.  9-4 Law with 90 seconds to go! Both guys exchanging shots, inside trip attempt from Wesley but nothing doing.  1:00 to go.  Law really needs to push for the major but is maybe slowing down a tad.  As I say that another nice single but Wesley passes the leg and it's stalemated.  29 to go.  Another shot by Law but Wesley stuff s and it's a 10-4 final.  That one had major written all over it.  Huge for Wesley to not give it up.

Intermission: PSU: 9 VT: 9

165: Chris Moon-VT v. Garrett Hammond-PSU
1st Period: Big scramble to start this one, Moon looking for height, Hammond catches Moon on his back!  Getting a count!  5-0 early lead for Hammond!  Hammond close to NF and gets it with a tilt.  7-0 now with 15 to go.  That'll do it for the first.  7-0 Hammond

2nd Period: Hammond takes bottom, quick stand up and out.  8-0,  great reattack by Moon makes it 8-2.  Escape for Hammond makes it 9-2.  Hammond in on a shot right away and finishes.  11-2 now.  1:21 to go. Crab ride by Hammond, following hips well and we're out of bounds with 36 to go.  Hammond getting close to a turn with that half but Moon able to avoid and that'll do it for the 2nd.  11-2 Hammond.

3rd Period: Moon takes neutral.  Hammond back in on that single.  Moon trying to pass but Hammond gets the finish.  Now has a DEEP turk and is getting a count.  Moon in trouble here.  Gets the full 5 cound and it's 16-2 Hammond! A rideout would give him the tech and that's just what happens as Moon gets warned for stalling as time runs out. 17-2 final for Hammond!

PSU: 14 VT: 9

174: #8 Zach Epperly-VT v. #2 Matt Brown-PSU
1st Period: Brown taking ground immediately, shoves Epperly off the mat.  Brown pulling the head. Quick single, quick finish and it's 2-0 Brown.  1:29 to go. Epperly nearly out but Brown drops down to the leg.  Back riding tough with good forward pressure.  Sit out and escape by Epperly and it's 2-1.  Nice chunk of RT for Brown.  Brown in on a single LATE and nearly gets the finish. No 2 given.  2-1 Brown after 1.

2nd Period: Brown takes bottom.  Up to his feet, fighting hands and is away.  3-1 Brown.
Great single and finish for Epperly makes it 3-3, Brown escapes immediately to make it 4-3 Brown! Brown in on another single, whizzer by Epperly but Brown gets the far ankle for the TD making it 6-3 after 2!  HUGE late score for Brown.

3rd Period: Epperly takes bottom.   Sit out and escape again for Epperly makes it 6-4 Brown.  1:16 to go.  TD EPPERLY makes it 6-6!  36 to go!  21.5 to go, Epperly on top needs to rie out.  Brown up but Epperly drops down to the leg and BARELY hangs on!  8.9 to go!  Rideout for Epperly and we're going to OT!

Sudden Victory: Tied up now, battling for position! Single for Brown and Epperly passes the leg comes up and gets the 2!  Epperly TAKES IT! 8-6 Epperly wins it!

PSU: 14 VT: 12

184: Austin Gabel-VTv. #18 Matt McCutcheon-PSU
1st Period: Underway here in another big one.  Single leg Gabel and there's the finish!  2-0 Gabel!  Wow.  Rec Hall is hushed.  Escape for McCutcheon makes it 2-1 Gabel.

2nd Period: McCutcheon takes bottom and escapes.  2-2 now.   Shot by Gabel but McCutcheon counters and it's stalemated.  That'll do it for the 2nd.  Not a lot going on

3rd Period: Gabel takes bottom.  He escapes.  3-2 Gabel.  High crotch by McCutcheon, cross face by Gabel now Gabel on the leg and gets the 2!   5-2 now, McCutcheon up and out.  5-3 with 40 to go! Short time to go and Gabel has a front headlock and Gabel takes it!  5-3 Gabel wins!

VT: 15 PSU: 14

197: Jared Haught-Vt v. #4 Morgan McIntosh-PSU
1st Period: Front headlock by McIntosh but out of bounds. 1 minute to go, still no score. Nuttin' goin on here.  End of 1st

2nd Period: McIntosh takes bottom and escapes!  1-0 MM.  Haught is a bit bigger and taller than MM (as are many 97's but it's noticeable here).  Not many attacks going here for MM.

3rd Period: Haught takes bottom, quick standup and is fighting hands, quick breakdown and Haught up again to his feet on the edge.  McIntosh drops down to the leg and runs him off the mat.  Haught once again up to his feet, but MM runs him off the mat.  Back to center they go.  Standup again by Haught, and once again driven off the mat by Haught.  Both guys working their tales off here.  Haught up to his feet, another mat return, Haught bounces up again.  Once again off the mat.  McIntosh has to be approaching a minute of RT.  Over a minute of RT for McIntosh and the mat returns seemingly have taken their toll on Haught as he's unable to get up.  20 to go. McIntosh puts him on his back!  Close to the Fall!  Time runs out!  WOW that was close!

5-1 the final for McIntosh!

PSU: 17 VT: 15

285: #7 Ty Walz-VT v. Jimmy Lawson-PSU
1st Period: So Lawson gets the nod.  This will be a tight one.  Don't let the rankings disparity fool you.  This is a toss up.  Lawson weights 268, Walz weighs 243 (Fun fact from the commentator).  Based on that fact I'd say Lawson is bigger #analysis. High crotch by Walz, in DEEP but feels ALL the hips of Lawson, no score after 1!

2nd Period: Walz takes bottom.  Sit out by Walz and he's out.  1-0 Walz.  Lawson runs to a single, on the edge, Walz doing splits!  Out of bounds!  Not much going on right now.  Hand fighting but no real attempts.  Throwby by Lawson!  He takes the lead!   2-1 after 2!

3rd Period: It all comes down to this!  Lawson takes bottom! Escapes immediately leads 3-1 now.  Nice low ankle by Walz, Lawson dives over for the stalemate!  1:20 to go!  High crotch again by Walz, crack down position and it gets stalemated.  VT staff not pleased.  40 to go.  Lawson warned for stalling High crotch for Walz and the FINISH!  3-3!  Almost escape for Lawson!  Walz follows.  3-3! Headed to SV but we've got a challenge on the escape!

Sudden Victory: Only fitting that it'd come down to this!  High crotch for Lawson, and he gets the finish!  5-3 Lawson takes it!  Lawson celebrating like crazy!  Crowd goes nuts!  CRAZY DUAL!

Final Score: PSU: 20 VT: 15
