POWERADE Semi's Set!

POWERADE Semi's Set!

Powerade Semi’s Set!
Willie Saylor, Editor

A great day of action at the Powerade ended with the Quarterfinals on Friday evening with 44 nationally recognized wrestlers still in the title hunt. Six of the fourteen weight classes feature a final four who are all ranked/honorable mention.

In the ‘surprise’ department, Beast placer #16-Tommy Aloi was beaten in the second round by McDowell Freshman, Charlie Lenox.

One of the most exciting matches was between rivals #20-AC Headlee and HM-Ricky Cavallo in the quarters. In their umpteenth meeting, Cavallo earned the right to move on to the semi’s, 4-3.

Other Day I Items of Note:
- #18-Brandon Thompson over HM-Vincenzo Joseph which included a spladle.
- #3-Ryan Diehl pushed to OT by Jack Mutchnik
- #13-Joey Galasso posting a tech and two falls
- A 1-0 bout between #8-Mason Manville and HM-Brock Zacherl
- HM-Chris Vassar taking out #14-Justin Arthur
-So. Bo Spiller pinning defending State Champ, #17-Nazar Mironenko

Of little surprise is #1-Blair leading the field after Dat I with 175pts. What is mildly surprising is Moeller in 2nd with 111, four points ahead of Canon McMillian. Franklin Regional and Solanco are tied for 4th with 94pts apiece.
The Semi’s, set for 11:30 ET tomorrow, will be exciting as 18 of the 28 bouts pit ranked foes head-to-head.

All four wrestlers left at 120, 126, 138, and 220 are Top 20 nationally.

Don’t forget you can watch the finals live on Tech Wave. Still on course to meet are Chance Marsteller vs. Cody Wiercioch, Kyle Snyder vs. Thomas Haines, and which ever two make it out of the meat-grinders that are 126 and 138.
