Get a snapshot of the Iowa State wrestling line-up for the 2024-25 season.
Iowa State enters the 2024-25 season with four returning All-Americans, nine national qualifiers, and a few transfers. The Cyclones finished fourth at the 2024 NCAA Championships — the highest finish during Kevin Dresser’s tenure as head coach.
Returning All-Americans include Evan Frost (133), Anthony Echemdia (149), Casey Swiderski (149), and Yonger Bastida (285).
Off-season transfers include Evan Bockman (Utah Valley), Aiden Riggins (Iowa), and Christian Carroll (Oklahoma State).
Dresser said the team will have levels of wrestle-offs beginning on October 13 at 2 p.m. CT, culminating on October 19 at a time to be determined. Another wrestle-off will likely happen during the first week of November.
Most intriguing is 149 pounds where Iowa State has three national-caliber wrestlers at one weight. Echemendia and national qualifier Paniro Johnson will square off on October 13, while Swiderski is expected to redshirt.
Three-time national qualifier Kysen Terukina is moving up to 133 where he will challenge Frost.
National qualifier MJ Gaitan is moving from 174 to challenge for the 165-pound spot.
Christian Carroll wrestled unattached at 285 pounds during his redshirt season at Oklahoma State but is moving to 197.
Below is a current depth chart for the Cyclones and seeding for the wrestle-offs. The line-up can change throughout the season but this provides a snapshot of the team. Wrestlers can move up or down based on need.
A few of the below wrestlers are injured and won’t compete at wrestle-offs. Swiderski will not participate in the first wrestle-offs.
True freshmen can use five competition dates as a starter without losing their redshirt.
A wrestler’s finishes at the NCAA Championships are in parenthesis. National qualifiers are listed as NQ.
