3 Wolfpackers Wrestled For Medals In Siberia
Timmy McCall, Mike Kosoy and Tommy Gantt of the Wolfpack RTC all wrestled for medals at the Miner's Glory International in Kemerovo, Russia this weekend.
The Wolfpack Regional Training Center had a productive trip to Siberia this weekend, where Mike Kosoy, Thomas Gantt and Timmy McCall all wrestled for medals at the Miner's Glory International in Kemerovo, Russia.
Former Wisconsin Badger Timmy McCall placed fifth at 97kg. McCall was up by four points against Poland's Huber Shimon in the bronze medal match before he was caught and pinned.
Watch: McCall advance to the finals of the Last Chance Qualifier for the 2017 World Team Trials over former Oklahoma State Cowboy Austin Schafer.
North Carolina State All-American Tommy Gantt also made it to a bronze medal match. Gantt beat Russia's Semyon Tereshenko 2-2 on criteria to take home the third place prize. Gantt scored two other impressive wins along the way to that medal, first a 10-0 drubbing of 2017 Yasar Dogu bronze medalist Artem Umarov of Russia and then a 17-5 shellacking of 2017 European junior champ Anzor Zakuev, also of Russia.
Watch: Gantt beat Chase Pami in the opening round of the 2017 US Open.
Fellow NC State alumnus Mike Kosoy also found his way to the podium this weekend. Kosoy, who recently won the Maccabiah Games 125kg division this year, made it to the finals before he was bested by Ostap Pasenok of Russia 2-1.
All three wrestlers are sponsored by the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club and train at the Wolfpack RTC in Raleigh, NC.
Prized of 60,000 and 30,000 rubles were awarded to Kosoy and Gantt for their respective silver and bronze medal winning performances, which works out to roughly $1,000 and $500 dollars American.
