Day Four 2017 World Championships Bracket Reaction
Thursday will be the fourth and final day of women's wrestling at the 2017 World Championships in Paris. Below are the brackets and draw analysis for the USA's Victoria Anthony (Sunkist Kids) at 48kg, Haley Augello (NYAC) at 53kg, Alli Ragan (Sunkist Kids) at 60kg, and Tamyra Mensah (Titan Mercury) at 69kg.

Victoria Anthony, 48kg

Opening Match: Miran Cheon, KOR
This is a very winnable match for Anthony. The inside-trip extraordinaire can get on a roll early against Cheon, who was only eighth at the Asian junior championships.

Her side: The gift and the curse of Japan once again. If Anthony makes it to the quarterfinals, she's in great shape. She will either beat the heavy favorite in Yui Susaki and become a good bet to win gold or lose and get pulled back in to repechage. There are a number of solid competitors on this half from Argentina, Peru, and Ukraine, but everything hinges on the Japan match.

Haley Augello, 53kg

Opening Match: Thi Hang Vu, VIE
It will be Vu's fifth world championships, with the previous two split between seniors and juniors. She has two Asian championships on her resume as well as a junior world silver from 2012.

Her side: Augello is in the very bottom quarter, with past Cadet and Junior world champ Leyla Gurbanova (AZE) and two-time Olympian Carolina Castillo Hidalgo (COL). But the main hurdles will be Jessica MacDonold (CAN) and Nina Hemmer (GER), who are ranked Nos. 6 and 7 in the world, respectively. Their likely second-round matchup will be a rematch of the German Grand Prix finals.

Alli Ragan, 60kg

Opening Match: Gabriella Sleisz, HUN
Outside of a couple World University medals, Sleisz's results are very underwhelming. Her level of experience would be more concerning if the American we have here wasn't a world silver medalist.

Her side: Features basically tough but winnable matches. World No. 7 Sakshi Malik (IND) was the Asian runner-up and will be a formidable second-round match. Win that and Ragan is in the semis against Euro runner-up Anastasija Grigorjeva (LAT), who may be pulling a lot of weight and be tired after three previous matches. It is not entirely unreasonable to think Ragan can make the finals.

null

Tamyra Mensah, 69kg

Opening Match: Alla Belinskaya (UKR)
She was the bronze opposite Mensah at last year's Olympic qualifier in Mongolia. Her most notable accomplishment was a bronze medal at junior worlds in 2015.

Her side: Many of the hammers are on the top half, opposite of Mensah. These include Dosho (JPN), Laroque (FRA), Mamashuk (BLR) as well as the always dangerous athletes from Russia and Azerbaijan.

This does leave girls such as Nasanburmaa Ochirbat (MGL), a 2013 world bronze medalist. Let us not forget, however, that Mensah beat her in the Yarygin finals in January. At the very bottom, 2014 world champ Aline Focken (GER) and Olympic bronze medalist Elmira Syzdykova (KAZ) will face off in the second round. This all adds up to Mensah being in a great position to make the finals.
