Earlier today, Nick Suriano was removed from the Penn State roster amid reports he wanted to transfer to Rutgers.
PSU sent the following statement to FloWrestling in regard to Suriano's status with the team:
"Nick Suriano recently requested a release so that he could transfer to Rutgers. We granted this release. Subject to Big Ten policy, any intra-conference transfer is required to sit for one year before they are again eligible to participate. Nick is open to transfer to Rutgers and will be subject to that school's policies (conference or otherwise) on transfer and eligibility status. We support and work within the Big Ten policy."
The gist of this statement is a response to an article on NJ.com that made it sound as though it was Penn State that was prohibiting Suriano from transferring and competing right away for Rutgers. Essentially, it is Big Ten policy that is preventing Suriano from competing for the Scarlet Knights in the 2017-18 season.
