According to the Los Angeles Times, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is expected to announce later today that it has reached an agreement with the cities of Paris and Los Angeles to host the 2024 and 2028 Summer Games, respectively.

This would be the third time Los Angeles plays host to the Summer Olympics. The Games previously came to Southern California in 1984 and 1932. The last Summer Olympics held in the United States were the Atlanta Games of 1996. Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002.

The IOC is taking the unusual step of awarding the next two Olympic Games simultaneously after several candidate cities dropped out of the running for 2024. Rome, Hamberg, and Budapest all withdrew their bids after citizens and local governments expressed concerns about the financial burdens of hosting.

The next Summer Olympics will be held in Tokyo in 2020.

Additional details on the IOC decision are expected with pending official announcement.
