Fargo Throwback: Thomas Gilman's 119 Bracket From 2011
Fargo throwback time! Looking back on Thomas Gilman's 2011 junior freestyle bracket at 119 pounds.
There's a bit of down time between the senior World Team Trials and Fargo, so we have time to examine both events.
People certainly love discussing the rookie world team members, one of whom is Thomas Gilman. And they absolutely love talking about crazy old Fargo brackets. How about some cross pollination of the two?
To wit: Gilman's 119 pound junior freestyle field from 2011. Below are the top eight placers from that bracket.
2nd Place - David Terao of Hawaii
3rd Place - Tim Lambert of Michigan
4th Place - Cory Clark of Iowa
5th Place - Evan Silver of Maryland
6th Place - Jered Cortez of Illinois
7th Place - Nahshon Garrett of California
8th Place - Max Hvolbek of California
So right away, we have the last two national champs at 133 pounds. Gilman did not get to wrestle Nahshon Garrett, but he did beat Cork Clark 2-1, 1-6, 2-0 (under the old rules). He also beat future All American David Terao, and eventual Fargo champ Jered Cortez. Gilman's complete road:
