While we can only hope to point out the tip of the iceberg, we'll countdown 7 of the best matches at the 2017 UWW University Freestyle Nationals below.

7) 97kg: Jeric Kasunic, DCAC DEC Danny Chaid, Tar Heel Wrestling Club 8-7

We will start our list with the penultimate match of the university tournament. Neither 97kg finalist may be household names yet, but both are NCAA qualifiers and both put on quite a performance in the championship bout. The match went back and forth, changing leads several times in the second period. Kasunic proved to be the clutchiest of the two, and the American Eagle secured victory over the North Carolina Tar Heel in the last seconds of the match.

6) 86kg: Wesley Schultz, LAW PINS Mark Miller, Team Poeta

Mark Miller had Welsley Schultz right where he wanted him, holding a 10-4 lead at the start of the second period in the second round of the 86kg bracket. That is, until Schultz countered a shot from Miller and headlocked him into oblivion. Schultz showed off some superhuman strength by hitting the move with one arm, reaching back and muscling Miller over his entire body and dashing his championship hopes.

5) 61kg: Johnni DiJulius, Titan Mercury Wrestling Club DEC Cameron Kelly, Ohio Bobcat Wrestling Club 14-7

How safe is a seen point lead in freestyle? Not safe at all when you're facing former Ohio State Buckeye Johnni DiJulius. The Ohio Bobcat and NCAA qualifier Cam Kelly was seemingly in control of their round of 16 matchup when DiJulius found his grove late in the second period. DiJulius locked up a tight leg lace and finished it with some acrobatic cartwheels to cap off a 14 point run that sent him through to the quarterfinals.

4) 70kg: Grant LaMont, Wolverine Wrestling Club DEC Kennedy Monday, Tar Heel Wrestling Club 20-17

37 points are you kidding me? Utah Valley's Grant LaMont and North Carolina's Kennedy Monday were apparently in no mood for jokes, as they put a serious hurting on each other and the scoreboard. Monday had a nine point lead late in the first period, but LaMont was able to battle back and take the lead with less than a minute to go. LaMont then held off a furious flurry of attacks from Monday in the final seconds of this ridiculous round of 64 slugfest.

3) 57kg: Kyle Norstrem, SERTC-VT DEC Devin Schroder, Boilermaker RTC 15-15

Virginia Tech Kyle Norstrem was a power bombing machine this weekend, chucking dudes in the air with reckless abandon. One of his best was a five pointer against Purdue's Devin Schroder in the consolation round. Norstrem would need those five points and the edge in criteria it gave him as this back-and-forth match went down to the wire, with Norstrem scoring the final two points off a wild scramble with 10 seconds left in the match.

2) 65kg Robbie Mathers, Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club DEC Dante Rodriguez, C-RTC 17-13

Former Sun Devil Robbie Mathers rampaged through a stacked 65kg bracket, earning the Outstanding Wrestler award of the university freestyle tournament along with his championship stop sign. He beat multiple All-Americans, including a two-time NCAA champ, but the guy who gave him the most trouble was Iowa State's Dante Rodriguez. Rodriquez hung 13 points on Mathers, including the first feet-to-back move of the match. But Mathers stormed back with a dizzying array of turns to advance to the round of 16.

1) 80kg: Jacobe Smith, CWC/TMWC DEC Daniel Lewis, Missouri Wrestling Foundation 17-16

Two-time All-American Daniel Lewis of Missouri found out the hard way just how much of a problem Oklahoma State's junior college transfer Jacobe Smith is going to be for the rest of the NCAA D1 field next season. In an absolutely bonkers match, Lewis raced out to an 8-0 lead, only for Smith to score eight unanswered points of his own to take the lead on criteria early in the second period. The lead would change hands four more times, including a wild exchange in the closing second of the match, where Lewis hit a desperation gut wrench on Smith while he was in a quad-pod defense, and seemingly scored the go-ahed points, only to be caught on his back and exposed as time ran out. The entire sequence has to be seen to be believed.

Bonus Clip: 74kg: Chance Marsteller, Mat Town USA TECHS Cole Walter, Lehigh Valley WC 15-4

Chance Marsteller returned to form in Akron, mowing down a slew of NCAA qualifiers along the way to his 74 kg title. The highlight of his run, which you very much should watch, is the superb lateral drop Marsteller hits right around the 1:25 mark of this video against the stout Cole Walter of Lehigh. It is a thing of beauty. Click here to watch the match, and do enjoy.
