Major Greco Roman Rule Change: No More Forced Par Terre
Greco Roman on the Senior level is getting an astronomical change. Forced par terre will no longer be a part of the general match structure. United World Wrestling Secretary General Michel Dusson sent out the following memo to all federations to inform them of the change:

null

This rule set will not be completely unfamiliar to Greco fans as this is the rule set we've seen for the Cadet and Junior level.  It will begin with a verbal warning for passivity the first time. The second time they will get hit for passivity, and then the third time passivity is assigned to a particular wrestler, their opponent will get a point.

From that point on, every two passivity warnings for that wrestler will translate into a point for their opponent.

Get a feel for the flow of the match by watching Taylor Lamont at Junior World's this year:

This seismic shift will make the focus drastically change from getting guys put down so you can turn them to making points from neutral an absolute premium.  The ability to throw feet to back and execute takedowns will now be what primarily decides matches. Athletes who thrived on getting their opponent placed under will have to make adjustments in their style to continue winning.
