Still pretty impressive breaking a top 10 national wrestler with one week's worth of practice and being out of shape. You can see how hard he was breathing all match long.

i think people question welch v winston because winston is a pinner and welch likes to rack up the points. but hey i think welch if he matures physically he can be one of the greats.

He's a bit overrated. Scott Winston would handle him.

Welch is playing with these guys. If you want to see him wrestle serious, watch his Midlands matches. BTW, he placed sixth at Midlands, winning six matches..... At this tournament, he had 1 week of practice after playing a long football season, where these guys have been training all Fall.

Slappy White you must be that famous wrestler that no one ever heard about.Do
You Wrestle Slappy or did you get that name by getting Bitched slapped by your old Lady.Jason Welch has been pretty successful at every weight he wrestled. He did beat both the 1st & 2nd rated wrestlers at 171 last year as a Junior in the State.Bland & Danz.Slappy leave the Crack alone.

I didn't say he sucked, and I didn't say thats all Northwestern will do for him is having him hit the weights. I just think he looks like his skills would benefit even more by being stronger. When he enters college he will be in the upper middle weights and if you have ever watched him wrestle he always has a harder time with the stronger wrestlers.

he placed fifth, get your facts straight dumb ass

Not hanging at Midland = placing 6th.... So what does that make the guys he beat, scrubs?
There is a thin line in wrestling between being strong and being bulky, I am pretty sure he knows where he needs to be and his coaches at Northwestern will be able to guide him with more than "hit the weights".

watch the midland matches nor cal local, he couldn't hang

Wow, "hit the weights and not rely on quickness and talent". Sure and maybe he should wrestle heavyweights next? Maybe John Smith should have bulked up also. I've seen him dismantle guys that "hit the weights" at the high school and college level.

You can't compare how other wrestlers wrestle eachother. It like football people match up different. All I am saying is watching these videos Welch looks quick and his skills are great, I think he lacks in strength which may not catch up with him until college. I didn't say he was overrated, he just needs to hit the weights and not rely solely on his quickness and talent.

no way he is overrated he is the one of the most dominate wrestlers ive ever seen he never stops wrestling the whole match he is unorthadox but still strong enough to not get caught in his funky moves 3 time working on 4 time state champ i dont think you can talk much smack about that

James Nicholson   December 25, 2007 at 2:07pm
deff not overrated has grreat attacks and good leg defense he might look weak but hes controling preety much every body

Mige   December 23, 2007 at 3:56pm
Ethan Smith(in the video) lost to Lofthouse by 2 and 1 points in the two matches they wrestled this year. Smith's a potential college wrestler and Welch makes him look pretty average. Overrated? Don't think so. Get beat by Lofthouse? No.

Jason_x   December 23, 2007 at 2:21am
Also, he is not physically weak. Last year he went up a weight to 171 and beat two of the top 10 wrestlers in that weight class at the same tournament.

Stop being a hater, Slappy White must have been the Swartzlender kid he punked in the 3rd round.

Welch looks physically weak compared to some wrestlers at his weight. I think a wrestler who is strong and technically sound will have a great chance at beating Welch. I saw Ethan Lofthouse at the beast of the east and I think he would give Welch a run for his money.

Wrestler60   December 22, 2007 at 5:10pm
overated? you show me a wrestler at his weight that can beat him? i cant think of one? i really dont think hes over rated if he can beat any kid at his weight? and he as only have about 2 weeks a practice because he is also a stud football player.
