Thank you very much, holy smokes, I never knew who that guy was and he didn't like much. I then googled him and he was a 2X AA in his day and a PINNER. That is wild, thanks again.
Monday actually gets his hips out and tries to escape while in par terre. Why do we not see more of that?
Back in the day a wrestler on bottom could get one point escape if the top wrestler had his hands lockedaround the body. Monday didnt get the escape point because he got out before schulz had a chance to lock his hands.
with the new rules a bottom wrestler cant get an escape point so there is no motivation to try and escape.
first - guru don't ever be gone that long again. second - this match was the changing of the guard. also being a true fan of dave schultz this was always hard to watch. i saw this match a while back and i saw schultz in the top position turning monday and monday's corner screaming potentinaly dangerous and getting it. the ref stopped the action and i always thought it was wrong. it looked to me that schultz would pin him. guru - your thoughts.

I don't know what the final score of the match was but to me it seems like it is 2-1. Monday obviously does not want to get caught underneath in a front headlock, so Fadzaev is the aggressor. Still a win over one of the best of all time at the event he's renowned for winning.

When Monday was in his prime, I don't think any wrestler in the world could have beaten him. Fadzaev moved up a weight at the worlds and Monday cleaned his clock. Schultz showed some real character too. After Monday beat him for the Olympic spot, Schultz asked Monday to train with him. Watch Monday's win in Seoul and see who picks him up and carries him around on his shoulders in celebration.
Ed - I don't think we will see freestyle become as popular as it was in 1988 until the rules are changed to make it more exciting. Today's version is DULL!

Will Olympic trials & qualifiers ever get the type of crowd that they did back 15-20 years ago, or is Freestyle dead?
First, a Throwback Thursday with Barry Davis, my favorite Hawkeye of all time now this masterpiece with my other favorite of all time, Dave Schultz, WOW! That throw by Monday in the first period took STONES!!! I never had the courage to attempt that in a lousy dual meet whereas Monday goes for it in the Final Olympic Qualifier, that is CRAZY! If that backfires, the match may be over, WOW! Thanks Guru for this great video. Question, who is the goofy looking guy in Schultz's corner with that beard, red short, gray sweatpants. I know I have seen Coach Andy Rein in his corner before but no idea who this guy is who I have seen in many other Schultz matches.

looks like Monday is tapping @ 0:37

Monday vs another all time great- Saitiev. Not sure if he was 100% in this match, but I think Saitiev beats him regardless of when they wrestle.

Always a great match between Monday & Schultz.
Enjoy & sorry I am late with this!
