Daniel Igali v. Lincoln McIlravy, 1999 World Championships

McIlravy himself wasn't an Igali-basher as some of the commentors on this thread seem to be. After their Olympic semifinal match he told Daniel "you are the greatest wrestler I have ever faced"/

Another great match to enjoy. It is a shame that our wrestlers do not spend more time on turning opponents using the same chain wrestling style we practice so much on our feet. One turn, just one, could mean the difference in these high level matches. Unfortunately, our top wrestling leaves too much to be desired. We are letting too many great opportunities on top get by and hoping to get everything in terms of scoring on our feet and only on our feet. Thanks Guru for yet another great match with high action!

Finishing when you've got the single elevated--that's the whole difference in this match. Igali was able to do it at the end, and Mac couldn't when he had his chances earlier in the match. Conditioning was not a factor. Looked to me like Igali had plenty in the tank at the end.

Wow, lets just bag on Daniel Igali. Its not like he proved himself in the international wrestling scene more than once or anything. I like McIlravy, being that Iowa is my favorite team, but Igali was definitely a talented wrestler. Not to mention he is an awesome guy. He used his sponsorship and winning money to build a school in his hometown in Africa.

oh and that last comment was mine, forgot to log in.

Nothing wrong with Daniel's cardio. He's a counter wrestler, and it works perfectly in this match. After this he pinned Lincoln McIlravy at a grand prix tournament and beat him in a long OT at the Olympics... I get the feeling if Mac had scored the lasted TD instead of Daniel people would be enjoying this match a lot more:)

I had Lincoln do a clinic at the school where I coach at in Ohio. He is a genuine person and a true role-model (not to mention one heck of a clinician). Lincoln has moved on with his life and is puruing his dream of running a business in the hotel industry. He has moved on from wrestling. One of the slickest wrester's our country has seen in some time in my opinion.

what a terrible match. ilgali stalled and some of these rules are ridiculous. boring. how bought bono and mcilravy

besides being involved in the hotel business does anyone know why he's not coaching at least on a part time level or working with a club or anything?

How can Olympic Champ ever be in that bad of shape. I know Lincoln was a machine but Igali was gassed after the first par terre exchange.

CAN got a good bit of extra time on top in the last exchange then went straight track meet.

Mullet was in full effect in '99 for McIllravy. I agree with Nywrestlingfan, it always seemed like McIllravy did everything right, but would usually lose to Igali

thank you guru for posting this match, when Mcilravy wrestled he always appeared to be the dominant wrestler . Even when he lost to Igali in the worlds and the olympics I considered it an upset.Lincoln should speak to our world team about that dominant aura he carried when he went into a match,Lincoln and the brands always truly expected to win. We need that attitude today, i miss it.

A great match between 2 amazing, evenly matched wrestlers. Both wrestlers stay in such perfect position. The handfighting by both wrestlers in order to just get an opening to take a shot is a thing of beauty. McIlravy is relentless and Igali's balance and power is something to marveled at. Igali played a bit of cat and mouse in the last minute and was finally able to take advantage of an opening as McIlravy forced the action.
