Interesting. Sorry to disappoint all but the way I see it is a wrestler that obviously didn't want to be there. Oh sure who wouldn't want to be in a match for a state championship! But thinking back on all the hard work and time put in only to have to go out and wrestle a regular Dan Gable its a bit much for anyone! Beam had an outstanding state run with a couple of md's and pin to get to Phillips but mentally broke right from the get go. Kind of ironic as the video shows little of what got Beam to the podium.
As for your Division argument Beam decisively beat Raber during regular season with 4 td's. I doubt even on a good day if Beam could beat Heflin and probably about equal to Hayes. All this means nothing! Division strength is a numbers and coaching reflection with a little bit of chance/fate thrown in.
Beam will be right where Phillips isn't. He won't be running from anyone this year to include Utely, Raber, Scheafer, Bontrager, etc. Why? There's no proof in matches that he has wrestled that he has too!
This kid, meaning Chris Phillips, had better get a lot of national competition 'cause his state high school competition is doing nothing for him, not taking away anything from them, Ohio wrestling being what it is, I'm sure they're real tough kids.
But it's like with sharks or corporations, if you're not moving forward, you're regressing, and the lack of competition at the state level will ruin this kid.
TJ said: As far as the big four for Monroeville, I think only two of them would win an all divison title (Logan and Phillips). Hunter would have had Clark from St. Eds and Cam Tessari would have had Martinez from Graham.
As far as competition in DII and DIII, it is not as deep as DI because of the numbers, but both the smaller divisons have stud wrestlers everywhere. Also the best team in Ohio in DII.
Last i checked hunter stieber wrestled 112, and clarky wrestles 119

By the way, that stand for,United States of America Powerlifting, weight class 198.Just thought that i would throw that in because i still love indiviual sports and i still compete. It's a way of life ,atleast for me.I'm not going to let Father time pin my ass without a fight to the end.
Ok,enough of that silly .But it is serious.
Watch closely, probably second half of the movie. The LT walks through the door of their make shift bunker barricks and he give praises to i think Rodriguezs for his shrine.I think it's of God and what not.I can't remember,it's been at least 10 years since i've watched Platoon but like you said,Great movie, the next time i'm at Best Buy i will own it.But any how, watch for the scarlet and gray t shirt.Their is a story behind the reason this t shirt is in this movie, maybe i'll explain at another time.Have to go.D3,i never meant to be a jerk, just playing bro.Anonymous(your not a coward),watch close,it's probably a 45 second scene.Bring em HOME
I am a a little younger, as I wrestled in high school and college about 10 years ago, but I agree with your statement that these kids are all tough mentally and physically. I own the movie Platoon (great movie!) but never paid close enough attention to read the t shirt. Next time I watch it I will be looking for it.
D3,Your alright in my book bro.I just get a little fired up being an ex wrestler in the late 70's and early 80's.We were good but these kids today would have beat 99.9 percent of us.It's amazing today, the work ethic, dedication and desire these fine young men have at such a young age. It's a life style for these State Champs, when they stopped crawling and started walking for the first time it is pretty much when they got started on the path to be a Champion.Myself,i couldn not have lived up to that kind of a comitment at such a young age and through out my teenage years. These are tremendous young men with outstanding upbringing and very family oriented.I know that i'm not stating anything that your (D3) not already aware of.I just love indiviual sports.Have you ever watched the movie Platoon.Check out the t shirt the LT is wearing. That says it all,do you hear me New Jersey,Pa,N.Y. and as Anold would say Cally forn ya.Keeping it real.Peace and bring the troops HOME
I should hope that all 4 kids from monroeville, some of troy christians better kids, and mcgookey could beat eds and graham. I would still like to see an all star team like that wrestle graham though. I think it may be close...eds would get crushed. Either way, the response I was looking for was...yea the kids from monroeville are amazing but the level of competition in D3 is pretty weak as a whole. I don't think anyone can argue that statement. Just watch the difference in the matches posted on here. I am taking nothng away from any kid that qualified as it is a tremendous feat in any division.
why all the arguing and fighting boys these are kids that are easily going to win 4 state championships through high school all four will win four its amazing states is over focus on next year.
D3.Now that you just proved you don't have a clue i'm going to slam your face in the mat and make your face look like the skid marks that are in your panties.
Your giving more credit to Beam than you are to Phillips for winning a D3 Title.Ok,D3 the Fab 4 wrestled D1 and D2 schools all season long and they weren't any more interesting, meaning The Fab 4 still Won easily.I'm not taking anything away from Beam,Lopez,Heminger and Canter any other weight class or State it self they probably win State titles too.
And as far as D1 and D2,you give D3 and The Fab 4 a couple of Troy Christian wrestlers and Jon McGookey from D2 and Division 3 would beat the likes of the St. Eds and St. Paris Grahams for a Division3 overall Divisional Title over D1 and D2.
It is what it is.I think you (D3),know wrestling so i think it's safe to say that you would agree with me.By the way though ass,i did answer your question in my first post. You may want to re read.Fabbing on bro.It is what it is.Good luck to ya
I dont understand why people get so defensive? Did I not say these guys would win D1 or D2 titles? Did I not say they are all beasts? I did not ask about how tough these guys are, I asked how weak is D3? But you are so concentrated on trying to start an arugument that you get on here and make yourself look like an ass. Good job, you know the Monroeville schedule. Get off their nuts and answer the question...How weak is D3, because from what I have seen besides a handful of exceptional wrestlers in this division, it is a huge step down from D1 and D2. Now you can respond Usapl and make yourself happy by trying to insult people instead of answering a basic question, or you can continue to blow the Fab 4.
D3,do you know anything about wrestling and the competition that the Fab 4 have faced this year or last. They schedule D1 and 2 teams, beat up on them all season long again.
Ok "special ed D3",here we go.Pay close attention.Quick example,Chris Phillips last year as a 15 year old freshman takes on senior,D1,undefeated,ranked number 1 171 pounder in the NATION and the cool, confident freshman had his way with the St. Eds stud at the Iron man.Chris controlled the match from start to finish.
You want more,just ask.
All 4 of the Fab 4 would have won State at any division and in any State.
Okay, I understand Phillips and the Steiber brothers are beasts, but how weak is division 3? I am taking nothing away from Beam as it is a huge accomplishment to finish as a state runner up, but the level of competition seems much lower than D2 and D1. I am assuming Phillips and the Stiebers would win D1 state titles, but the matches would be so much more interesting if these guys wrestled D1 or D2. Either way, congrats to all who wrestled in the finals!
