Grand Valley Head Coach : Speakers & Interviews

There are quite a few varsity teams in the NCWA with paid coaches. Apprentice School, Southern Virginia, Navy Prep, Army Prep, Air Force Prep, Blair Academy, Williamson Trade, and Marion Military are a few teams I can name off the top of my head that have funded varsity programs.

I have no idea what the powerhouse "club" teams like Grand Valley and Central Florida pay their coaches. But I know where I coach at UMBC (which placed sixth at the NCWA National Duals) I'm basically a volunteer. My stipend is less than the high school coaches in the area.
By the way, the top teams in the NCWA -- whether they are funded as varsities through the athletic program or not -- are more equivalent to lower-division teams (NCAA DIII, NJCAA or NAIA) than "clubs."
The kids who compete for the top teams in the NCWA get a full college wrestling experience. One of my wrestlers already has 32 matches this year and we've competed in seven tournaments. We wrestle NCAA DIs, DIIs, DIIIs, NjCAAs, NAIAs and NCWAs.
Our goal is to become an NCAA DI but our school's president wants us to build up our NCWA team more, and raise the funding needed, before he'll allow that.

Does the NCWA have any paid coaches?

? When did they start paying Grand Valley coaches? Dave Mills built this program out of sheer will the last time I checked. Wrestlers came there for the coaches and the atmosphere. Who is the coach now? I did not recognize him and did not realize Mills was gone.

Having paid coaches doesn't hurt either
